LainTora
Is there a maximum number of skins (that are installed/placed into the "base" directory) that can be displayed and chosen from within the player setup page within MP? I have about 50-60 custom skins in my "base" directory found from various JK2 websites, and several skins do not show up. I have not had a chance to delete some skins to see if there is "magic" number that is the cutoff. The skins that I have noticed missing were visible at one time within the game. Darth Xhan
As far as I know, there shouldn't be..... I only have about 20 skin and 10 models though.. On a side note.. do you have the "Slythe" skin for Desann?
LainTora
No, I do not have that as one my skins. I have a total of 56 custom skins installed, some of them containing several versions of the same skin (not just red or blue team variations). The default skins from the game are not included in the above total. I intend to take some time and try removing/deleting skins from the "base" directory and see if there is a "magic" number. Also, I intend to send LucasArts/Raven tech. support an e-mail asking about the situation. It is more of a curiosity than an actual problem preventing me from playing the game, but I still would like to know.
LainTora
I received a reply back from LucasArts. It is in response to me asking if there is a maximum number of skins/models that can be installed. Here it is: "...Thank you for your message. Unfortunately, LucasArts doesn't produce any of the custom add-ons for Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast that you can find on the internet, and we do not support them. I would recommend that you try contacting the author of the custom add-on or go the website where you obtained it from for information on how to use it with our game. For more information and help with Jedi Knight 2, I recommend that you go to the following 3rd party website for recommendations from other users: http://www.lucasforums.com/ ..." Perhaps I need to ask Raven Software next. I am still working to find out if there is that "magic" number of skin/model/BOT PK3's that can be installed when they start pushing older ones off the list to choose from. <|WoV|>Huma
I run into that same problem to. I dont know how many I got but I got TONS!
Xenoeye
Thats BS, your not asking for support for the addon your asking how many of these addons their game will support. Try Raven, they're the makers and tend to be a little more helpful instead of sending your PR crap.
Asurr_Kith
Greetings, I have recently ran into this as well. I haven't been able to discern the number of custom skins/models one may have, nor found a possible solution. I was just curious if this problem has been solved, and if so, how? Thank you. UndefinedSin
I have the exact same problem...there must be a limit, and it totally blows.
LainTora
How do I contact Raven Software? Any one have an e-mail address to use? Thanks! P.S. The "magical number" for skins/models not to be displayed from in the "Player Setup" in a MP game is about 50 or so... I just want to get the facts from Raven. Datheus
You can use as many skins as you want.. the problem is not all will show up in the graphical user interface... you can still use the console to change your skin to one that does not show up in the menu
LainTora
Hey Datheus, The situation you describe is correct. What is the console command to change your skin/model?

surfslinger
i thought skin space was related to harddrive space, like most add-ons. in mp games though doesn't everyone have to have your add on skin for it to work??
LainTora
in mp games though doesn't everyone have to have your add on skin for it to work?? No. When you setup your MP character (pick a skin/model) only the ones running on that specific server will show up. For example: You and the server both may have a custom skin installed, that I don't have installed. I would only see you as a generic, default skin, such as Kyle, etc. It would not prevent me from joining the server that you are on. I hope that makes sense. Andy867
Here is your answer.. Yes there is a limit....Wired Lamp Studios ran into this problem when trying to make the Co-op mode. Originally Posted by Unikorn We are hitting a model limit that we cannnot overcome. This kicks out about 80% of the original Jedi Outcast single player maps. One step our coder took was to code an external program which removes some models - e.g. artus_mine has 301 models, the multiplayer executable supports only 256. But this only lead to other problems, as several entities required the removed models - the map didn't load successfully either. And if you try to remove those entities, you kinda destroy the maps -> missing triggers, leaks.... So, as you can see, there is a limit as to what is supported by the MP Executable.. The SP can handle a lot more since more coding went into it, but as we all are well aware, the sp source is not and will not be released.
