select a bone and move it around, everything weighted to that bone will follow. Next weight the vertices that remained in place.

 

Dont forget to hit undo to come back to neutral stance...and save often!

 

I prefer to manually weight everything instead of painting, i only select which vertices i need and add the correct abs. I have more control and it's quicker, especially for the hands...
