PerfectJamie
i tried asking this on massassi.net and didnt get any help, so i hope i will get some here any way i am trying to model a obi-wan model, and i was thinking should i edit a JO model or should i make one from the begining (what im doing now) well the thing is I want my model to be fully made by me, one more thing........i use milkshape to model and i use the zombie tutorial to model (get pictures front and side view of the character and build faces around it) but this way i nead to buy action figures or draw him, can anyone give me a good tutorial that doesnt require me to do that? and i think the problem i have is that my guy is too boxy, is there any way to round models without redoing?, thx
K.O
I think something came up about you not being able to export models from Milkshape into JKII.. Well, just incase, here's another program you could use: gmax http://www.discreet.com/products/gmax/ Now hopefully someone can answer the question part. :|
PerfectJamie
wow fast reply, i was under the impression that gmax doesnt have plugins to import and export JO models? mabe it was only me. is it better than milkshape?
K.O
Oh yeah! It might of been gmax that doesn't let you. I'm not even sure myself.. All these threads about it are confusing me. O_o Some think it's better than Milkshape, plus more use it so you'd have help from the community with that more than Milkshape. (Least what I'm hearing )

Psyk0Sith
About your rotoscoping (the process of using bitmaps in the viewport) question: I think it is the best way to make a model, it helps keep the model in the right proportion (when using good reference). Many pro modelers use this method because it is very helpful and produces great results. You dont have to do it this way, you just have to find what works best for you. Now for the software part... you can use whatever you want, the main problem is exporting the mesh to XSI 3.0 format. You need 3D studio max 4.x to do the weighting and exporting. I only use Max, so i dunno if there's a plug-in for others.
Twisted Vertex
Use notepad for the best results......you'll never look back.
PerfectJamie
hehe and how can i do it in notepad? so pros use 2 references? do they use more than 2 pictures? (one for the leg, one for the body, etc)
Psyk0Sith
The more reference, the better. In the viewports mostly front and side i suppose. you could have a front and side view of a leg, model the mesh, then load some other bitmaps for the torso and the arms.
