Looking good so far, especially being it your first map (I think).

The biggest thing I noticed is the textures, you really need to work on that.

Just in case you don't know how:

  • press cntrl + shift + left click to select the face of a brush
  • if your using gtkradiant, pres cntrl + alt + shift + left click to select multiple faces at a time
  • press s to bring up the surface inspector menu

And just look at the options in the surface inspector menu, you should be able to figure out what you need to do then

If you already know that and/or just haven't gotten around to the texture work yet, then of course ignore my post.

well, it's really just there to let you fit a texture onto a face and to resize, realign, and rotate the texture. For instance, if you have a wall that is made up of 2 brushes side by side but one is taller than the other (maybe because there's a window or something making the other brush shorter), then just fitting the texture to the face of the brushes won't work, they won't be aligned right. you'd need to fit the texture to the tall brush and for the other one, make the texture the same size as the first brush then shift the texture vertically untill it's aligned with the taller brush so that you can no longer tell where one brush ends and the other begins lust be looking at it.

That's just one specific example of doing something other than just fitting the texture on a brush. Really, you just need to adjust the textures any which way you wan't so that whatever you're making looks the way you want it to. Play around more with the options in the surface inspector and see how the texture changes on the brush, you'll get it.

Hey Gohan, I fixed your compiling issue with the sky, and sent you an email with all that you'll need. .Map file, .BSP file, .pk3 file with custom texture in proper placement, and a readme, plus an arena file... enjoy!

**EDIT** Unfortunately the file was too large for hotmail with the .bsp file, so I took it out, and I am re-sending it with just the .map file, the custom texture and a readme.txt

1. how do i get lava that damages the person who falls in and when they fall in it looks like red foggy water like in other MP maps that are out? cuz right now when they fall it it kills them but its clear and they can see my whole map ( underground, blue base, red base, above)

2. how do i get good fog? i cant seem to find a fog that isnt black or transparent lol.

Hey! Looks great! Better than my first map, that contains some grans and items... But it's just for training, as I am a REAL newbie to Radiant. Will you put it on the I*net for download? I am going to also create a great map, after I explore the world of not-really-working-textures :D.

No one is innocent, there are only levels of guilt.

On the LAVA issue.

I 'borrowed' the lava shaders from QUAKE3 but they are exactly as you describe.

Best thing would be to get one of those MP maps you mention unzip the PK3 file and check their shaders to see if they're using a custom lava shader.

The only thing I can suggest though is to put fog under the lava but I'm not sure if that would work.

As for fogs check out the original quake3 fog shaders if you have access to them.

yea sure why not , ill most likely send it to jediknightii.com and jedioutcastmaps.com , but my map still needs a lot of work, i still got to add sounds to my effetcs, add a flag tower for the other team, make spaw points for weapons, health, and force booster thingys, right now im haven a bad time with suction tubes and color light, the color light shows threw walls and the tubes arent suction but i think i know why that is, so in other words once i wake up tomarrow ill spend all day on it like yesterday, and ill try to get this done before my school year starts Oct, 5th . If anyone wants to do the bot rutes for me after i finish my map that would be great :) otherwise there wont be bot support because im not gona mess with that stuff. i can also use some custom textures of metal if anyone has some plz send it to Gohan_Trunksss@hotmail.com hmmmm i think thats all i got to say. yup guess i better go before dad wakes up and screams at me again :(
