Length of Multiplayer Match

Recommended Posts

I have several friends that play BG now. Normally about 3-4 of us that play death match. We are used to playing RA2/Yuri.

Seems theres a complaint coming around the group. The games take too long. Keep in mind we are used to 45 minute to under 2 hour games in FFA RA2/Yuri.

Maybe we are just still too new at the game and are doing the wrong game plan. Playing it like RA2/Yuri.

My question to you folks is, how long do your multiplayer 2+ players matches usually last? I really enjoy the game and dont want the group to lose interest but I too from the last few games we have tried, thought it lasted way too long. For example, destroying a structure takes forever. Some games we actually save and try to continue the next night we play!

Thanks!

An 2v2 RM inters game, normal speed, flats map is often finished in under 30 minutes. It sounds like everyone is turtling for the game to last 3 hours. It is a bit too easy to turtle in this game IMO, but there are ways around it. I would recommend pummel dropping someone if they are turtling, then following up with a massive attack.

In tech I and II you should use mounted troopers. They are quite useful and about 15 to 20 of them with trooper escort will be more then enough.

In tech III, use pummels or bombers. be careful and always escort them!

In tech IV, use assault mechs against military buildings and cannons against turrets and fortresses. You can still use bombers and pummels but their effectiveness is reduced unless you play a air-strong civ or a hvy weapons-strong civ.

Don't forget the air cruisers(if you're playing CC). They're slow and powerful so escort them and take care of them but don't use them against ADV AA turrets because they do not outrange the adv AA turret. Instead, use them against fortresses and large group of enemies but beware! If your units get caught in the air cruiser's blast they will get hurt!

This is a great thread.

One of the best ways to help you improve would be to download some recorded games (check out the Links section of our website).

Depending on your opponents skill levels you can wipe them out within 25 minutes. The key is what we call 'rush' - where you attack early but rather than attacking structures (takes too long) you attack your opponents workers - which these, they can't expanded and slows them down, giving you a vital edge when you upgrade and attack again.

But do check out the recorded games, you will learn alot.

Yeah, you definitely want to make you key targets workers since they're the life blood of expansion and military generation. If you do attack structures, try to take out powercores and animal shelters first, since they affect building potential. Hitting the spaceport works fairly well too, since it prevents trading. Of course, you might have to take out a turret or two if you can't avoid them.

Sometimes when your with friends, games tke longer cause your more cautious. Simwiz and I have played 5-6 hour games that we quit because no one was winning (of course the map was designed to have long boring games which for some reason simwiz likes:confused: ). Most multiplayer games last about 45 minutes 2v2 against evenly matched opponents, although they can drag out to an hour and a half in some cases.

Sith, our current stalemate game is a standard RM game, not a custom map. It is a FLATS map, I don't see how that is a turtle map designed for long games. The space map you are referring to was an experiment.

Still doesnt change the fact that you find some wierd joy in playing games that last for 5 hours and nothing happens. Maybe thats why you like ron

I don't think stalemates are fun, I just like to finish a game if I start it. Quitter!

And if you had the ability to read you would know the average time for a RoN MP game is one hour. Certain settings can make for longer, more in-depth games, but those will mainly be used in SP, where people will play a bit and save like in the Civ series. The longer games will likely not be more than 2 hours.

I'm sure a WC3 ripoff is so much better, right? Your post represents the pinnacle of stupidity, it is all made up bull**** and no fact. Also, I will ignore any further stupidities from you.
