If you think about it. Mos Espa was not as big as a space port like Mos Eisley was. It would of been very difficult to find anyone going to Coruscant from Mos Espa. Even if they could find a ride. How would they get back to Naboo? This was Royalty unlike Luke and Ben. Also there was the fact that there were at least 20 people on the ship. Luke and Ben barely got a ride for two people and two droids. Luke even said that with the amount they paid they could of boughtt their own ship. Now imagine getting a ride for all 20 people? That would cost alot and it would still would be difficult to pull off. Qui-Gon did what he thought was the best decision for that particular situaition. They were also trying to not attract alot of attention. If they would of gotten a ride. Someone would of noticed that they were carryying Royalty. The decision that Qui-Gon made was just simply the best fot that situation.

1.) Padme Would not have left her handmaidens, or her head security officer Panaka. She cares about her people too much.

2.) Selling their ship would probably raise suspicions about who they were and what they were doing on tattooine, possibly causing them to be turned in to the Trade Federation or the Hutts.

3.) Qui Gon almost certainly had some force premonition about the race, giving him great confidence in his ability to win the bet.

yes, but he had a pretty sexy looking ship, he could have sold that to someone for a ride, or enough valid currency. amidala was the only one they needed to transport, and the jedi, maybe the droids. everone else can stay on tatooine.

Because the ship was useless in its current state, remember it needed a new hyperdrive and other parts. What would his salespitch have been? - "I have a ship for sale! It looks great, but needs lots of work. Anyone interested?

Plus, selling the ship quickly and getting off Tatooine's surface within seconds would have left Anakin Skywalker, the chosen one and future Darth Vader, behind. This would have changed the future of the galaxy.

This would have ruined Episodes IV, V and VI, making them useless rubbish. Then Darth Vader would never have existed, and I would have killed myself.

I think Darth Vader 421 is a BIG Vader fan, and so he is happy with the whole Anakin turning to the dark side event!

I don't think Qui-Gon Jinn did have a gambling addiction, because he is a Jedi Master and incapable of greed, the main force behind gambling and risking your money to gain better objects/more money/parts for a J-Type 327 Nubian. He looked at the problem, viewed the possible outcomes and decided upon the best course of action. After all, if he didn't sense the Force strongly in Anakin, the whole podrace would have had nothing to do with Qui-Gon's mission (it was Anakin's idea for Qui-Gon to bet on the races in the first place).

It's all Anakin's fault. He turned Qui-Gon Jinn into a gambling addict, that evil child! Kill him! KILL HIM!
