Your settings are correct but dont check the animations tab, it just exports empty frames and makes a bigger XSI file.

I cant load your file, im using max 4.2, and the perspective viewport wont load correctly. Max just sits there and loads forever...

edit:

ok i imported the scene instead of opening the file itself but the weighting got screwed up when i imported.

I cant help out unless you send me a good max file (ive never encountered this problem before so i dunno whats wrong) was this file saved with max 5 or 4.x?

I'll try my best to make it clear and simple.

Here is what i do...(i dont have max installed at the moment so im gonna try to remember the best i can.)

Lets take the arm for example:

-Add the skin modifier to the mesh of the right arm

-Go to the skin modifier rollout and click add bones

-Add the bones that will modify the mesh

In this case, u will most likely select from the r_clavicle down to the hand bone.

-Again in the skin modifier rollout click the edit envelope button? im not sure how its called. Then select the bone you wish to weight.

-When i weight, i manually weight everything, which i find faster and gives more control over every part. To do this there is a section down the modifier where u have to check a box that says vertices...(and then u use the abs box to type in the amount of influence).

I think im gonna write a little tutorial with pictures to help on this weighting stuff.

If you are using the "H" method, the mesh should turn white for 1/2 a second. That way you know when its been linked. (Same thing when linking straight in the viewport)

First you select the parent object and then you click the link tool, then you press H and select the child object, when its selected you click link and it will blink white.

If this is how you did it, then it should be fine.
