BCanr2d2
For those that are lucky enough, like me to have a DTS-ES and Dolby Digital EX capable receiver, I listened to LOTR: FOTR Special Extended Edition on DTS-ES, and it sounded awesome..... Since DTS is only 4:1 compressed compared to DD 12:1, it has a lot more detail in it. Explains why most music DVD's are only in stereo or DTS, and not Dolby Digital... I reccomend anyone who has DTS-ES available to them, listen to it and prepared to be amazed.
Surfnshannon
DTS is awesome...but expensive equipment. I went to Fry's Electronics this weekend and they had the scene from EP2 when Jango chases Obi through the asteriod field.... SOOO awesome...only 3000+ for the system they had
BCanr2d2
Only problem with what you said there is that Ep 2 is Dolby Digital EX (ie 6.1) not DTS!!!
Surfnshannon
hum - maybe it was just saying the system supported DTS - whatever they had was sweet...though
BCanr2d2
Tell them to play LOTR: FOTR SE, then try and listen to that.... I would assume what ever it was would support both, as the cheaper systems usually just support Dolby Digital only, not any of the DTS stuff, nor DD EX...... I had a windfall with the lotto here with work, so it was a bonus to myself to buy it. I haven't regretted it yet, just keep gettingly pleasantly surprised everytime I hear a better encoded soundtrack that shows off the capabilities of the receiver I have. Mines an Onkyo TX SR-600.....
