the scripts thread has a lot of useful information that you can use. A lot of it in the beginning is outdated, so you may want to start at the end & work your way back.

A script is just basically a text file that is read by the game engine and whatever is written in there is fed to the console as commands.... it's basically a quick way of executing a bunch of console commands versus typing each one by hand, one by one
