i stopped watching most of it. but i guess the best anime movies are "Akira, Ghost in the Shell, and Mononoke"; the best series is "Neon Genesis Evangelion; can't think of another that matches it"

the main reason why i stopped watchin anime is cuz i noticed a whole lot of wannabe japanese

take evangelion for example (because i assume most of you have seen a lot of it, or all of it) the plot is so complex, and with the new movies out replacing the old ending its just mind blowing to realize what is going on...that is...if you actually understand what its about. It leaves me more fulfilled than watching bat man defeat criminal after criminal....

Give me more credit than that. The proof is in the avatar, ironicly. I agree 100% about the story lines being better vs. American toons. Lots of twists and emotions they don't give you in our more edited version of anime.

i am a BIG anime fan. although my top anime ppl do not like is DB and DBZ. and the animation for it to be from the late 80's early 90's is d-a-m-n good. the uncut Escaflowne rocks. Neon Genisis, Bastard, the anime Street Figther movies are just cool ( if you've seen Street Fighter Alphs the movie you'll know what i mean). the only anime i just don't get is Cowboy Bebop.

My sig says it all "Watashi wa Otaku no Anime desu." Translation: I am an Anime Otaku (well, basically "I'm an otaku"). I have my likes and dislikes in anime, of course. I totally refrain from ANY hentai (in japanese, hentai literally means 'pervert', thus anime porn is called Hentai), and there are some series I've come to dislike (DBZ just went on far too long with basically not much plot and the same 'ole fight scenes). I am an anime purist, which means that I'd go FAR out of my way to see the anime in subtitled version (original japanese language track with english subtitles) than I would the dubbed version.

Now, I know there are some badly done anime series and movies out there, but for the most part, anime totally rocks. Anyone who says otherwise is itching for a fight (listen to the radio show 'What do you know' on NPR to get that joke. its a literal quote from the show).

Basically put, I love anime. IMO, the most recent American made cartoons are on the quality level of sewage. These days, we're so obsessed with making money that never is an attempt made for quality except to get kids to pester their parents into getting the toys of characters from the series. Anime is not like that, in that the animation quality and a focus on telling a story are both put as the most important (in most cases) to the creators and production staff. This is why anime is now becoming big in america, and it is my hope that anime's popularity in America doesn't ruin it b/c of greedy producers buying the license for showing in the U.S., b/c most anime that is broadcast is censored beyond belief, dubbed (arrgggghhhh, why don't they just sub the darn things!!!!!! arrgghhhh!), and butchered beyond belief (editing b/c of 'content' or 'language' and all other forms of total BS). However, the DVD releases, and fansubbed eps are exempt from this americanizing of anime (d@mn it, one of the reasons we love anime is its japanese influence, I don't want it dumbed down so that its more 'american'! I'm proud of my country, but I don't want anime becoming 'american', b/c that ruins a big part of its appeal!), and instead keep its japanese influence, which is a big part of why I like anime (I'd love to learn japanese and visit japan someday).

You talking about people like me? I'd like to beg to differ. I'm not a wannabe japanese, not by a long shot. I'm proud that I'm American, and also proud of my European ancestry, its just that I am intrigued and extremely interested in the japanese culture B/C its so foreign and I'd like to learn more. Anime just encouraged this interest, and I also appreciate its cultural influence, which is why I despise the dubbers who do dubbing for TV broadcast anime in the U.S., b/c the take the cultural influence out, which, in doing so, ruins part of the reason I watch anime. I don't want americanized anime, b/c I HATE the American commercialism which goes along with most American cartoons these days. So, no, what you saw were people like me who have an interest in the japanese culture who also happen to greatly appreciate the japanese cultural influence in anime.

Ok, the Otaku's rant is over, everyone can calm down now.

One more thing, yes, I am aware that 'otaku' has a negative connotation in japanese, but it is still the unofficial title in America for someone who is a big fan (if not an obsessed fan, an uber purist). I happen to just be a big fan, since I'm just a purist, and not an uber purist. Just needed to clarify that. :D

Ok, TWO more things, TWO (monty python :D). My favorite series and movies.

-Neon Genesis Evangelion (WAHOOO!! I have the ENTIRE series, including both movies, on hybrid DVD, which means I can watch the sub and dub versions on the same DVD)

-Record of Lodoss War: The Chronicles of the Heroic Knight (this is the Lodoss War TV series)

-Record of Lodoss War OVAs

-Ah! My Godess: The Movie

-Akira

-Princess Mononoke

-Spirited Away

-any other movies made by Mihizaki (sp?? totally forgot how to spell his name. yeah, call me a baka for that one)

-Digimon Frontier (fansub ONLY. the american dub just sickens me)

-Outlaw Star

-Child's Toy (a series which will probably never come to the U.S., and is one of the most difficult to translate b/c of the uber fast speaking, but I've seen good fansubs of it, and the first ep I watched had me holding my gut b/c I was laughing so hard)

-Love Hina (one word: Naru :D~~~~~ *drool*)

-I, My, Me! Stawberry Eggs.

-Hellsing

-Vampire Hunter D

-Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust

-Noir

-Nadia: Secret of Blue Water

-Chobits

-Wierd Anime: Excel Saga

-Armitage III: Poly Matrix

-Armitage: Dual Matrix

-Hack Sign

-There are others that I've seen and loved, but I watch so much anime (I've totally shunned broadcast TV, with the exception for CNN, ESPN, Discovery (and all their variations), History Channel, and History International) that I can't remember the names.

To all you fellow anime fans, more power to you! :D
