Lighting behind transparent shaders

I have a couple places in my Orbital Transfer Station where I took a "transparent" shader (i.e., the yavin maps, some grating that you can see through) and placed it only a few units away from a projector unit or some machinery that needs protecting or something. However, I'm having trouble getting the surgface behind the shader to light properly, there is an example here, look at the tables in the middle of the room.

 

Any suggestions on how to deal with this?
