Joshi
Okay, intelligent conversation time. Do you think robots, cyborgs or humanoids could rule the Earth. This wasn't inspired by any movie (although stuff like The Terminator and The Matrix spring to mind), but i was just working one day and was really bored. so i thought, would technology ever advance so far as to create complete artificial intelligence that it could wipe us out or enslave us? discuss... obi
Robots won't have to whipe us out. We will do a good job ourselves.
Rogue15
dude, it already HAS enslaved us. try buying something when the cash register isn't working correctly...
Al-back from the BigWhoop
erm... i dont think buying something without the cash register is such a big problem. i was immagining u would say something like "go t another country w/o a car or a plane or something" anyways, i dont think machines will get guns and enslave humans. i think humans and machines are becoming one. i think we will have cyborgs, humans with machine parts (not those hollywood arms, gray metals with cable, something more subtle and usefull, like nanobots) and plain humans. and one wont live without the other

Joshi
Originally posted by Rogue15 dude, it already HAS enslaved us. try buying something when the cash register isn't working correctly... actually, this is kinda where i got the idea for this topic, operating the cash register at my work. sometime,s it decides to be difficult. this is where i thoguht that robots could never function without us. but then again, you never know. I agree with Al slightly in the fact that we will learn to live with each other (or we won't learn, we just will, we've bee adapting to them for so long that basically and electric yo-yo would seem commonplace soon enough withous us even noticing). but i don't like the idea of complete AI. frankly, this is like meddling with gods work (or course i'm not trying to bring in the topic of religeon into this, but maybe it plays an important role). and if we were to build complete AI, what's to stop them from takeing us over. if they have the intelligence of a man with the memory and math skills of a machien, what's to stop them. and also, Obi-wan. you said were already destorying ourselves. what are we using, gun's, nuclear devices, tanks, these are all machines. we said that we would never want a WWIII becuase of Nuclear weapons and technological advances in weaponery, otherwise an entire nation would be wiped out and maybe even end up with global destruction. it is technology that has done this. so in a way, technology has corrupted us and is destorying the human race. those cockroaches must be laughing their arses off. Joshi
Originally posted by obi-wan13 Guns don't shoot themselves, though. and robots don't make themselves. but it's the same, weere building these wepons of mass desrtuction. i mean what idiot woke up one day and thought "you know what, i think i've found something that could destroy as entire nation in seconds. this must be good" if machines did take over the world, we'd have to remmeber that we were the ones that made them in the first place, the fall of humans is due to human frailty as well as human nobility.
