Joshi
after reading a very heated discussion on Arsen, i decided to see what would happen to the same kind of thing here. basically, what do you guys think of homosexuals? i think we can agree on the generalisation there and we all know what that word covers so no need to explain. i also understand that we here on escapemi are a lot more mature about certain subjects than those on RSN (face it guys, when it comes to this type of subject, only a handfull of you can handle it properly). lets see if we can't make this a good discussion. so my basic question, or discussion piece, what do you think of homosexuals? do you thinks it's wrong, right, doesn't matter, or whatever. please note, this is not pressing you for information on your own sexuality as if you want to, you can keep that a secret or whatever. what i don't want is twenty people replying to this saying "I'm as straight as a meter ruler" because i don't really care. so, discuss... Al-back from the BigWhoop
i think we will end up killing ourselves... again... but anyways: as i said b4, i really dont care if some1 is homosexual. and in an evolutionary point of view, homosexuals help control the overpopulation (as most of u know, homossexual animals have been found in nature) AND raise the adoption rate. most ppl ive seen that hate homossexuals, hate em because they think their sons or daughter might learn from them. and i think - IMHO - that while their way of talk and act might be taugh, liking some1 of the same gender is just genetical mutation (and i dont mean mutation in a bad sence, just in the evolutionary point of view). PS- this post is probably quite crapy since i couldnt find my thrusty web dictionary
Frenchyd
i hate to be the big bitch, coming along and making everyone mad, but here i go.... I don't HATE homosexuals, I don't approve of people hating them just because of their lifestyle, but i dont approve OF homosexuals either.... The main reason I don't approve is that it's written in the bible that homosexuality is a sin, and that's the only real reason... plus it just makes me shudder... but anyways, don't hate, im sure not judging anyone.. Feral's angel
I'm kind of with Frenchyd on this one. I have nothing against homosexuals because I think it takes a lot of guts for them to be open about their sexuality, but at the same time I don't really approve. I don't think of it as a natural thing and don't think I ever will. Infact I do find it kind of disgusting. But like I say I have a lot of respect for homosexuals for being so open and I'd never mock a homosexual. Sorry for the edit...wanted to see her new sig. HelenW
I think it is not normal to be homosexual. It obviously goes against nature. Whether you believe in God, or just the laws of nature it amounts to the same thing. However, it is also not normal to have 6 toes. Or to be born with your heart on the wrong side of your body. It is also not "normal" to choose to live as a hermit. In western culture it is not normal to have more than one partner, but in some cultures, bigamy is socially acceptable. just because we view something as not "normal" doesn't mean it is wrong. Normality is a culture bound phenomenon. Who am i to judge others. Despite the fact that I think that homosexuality is abnormal, I do not have any problem whatsoever with it. Similarly, I do not have a problem with someone who chooses to live as a hermit. Lifestyle, is an individuals business and not my own, as long as they are not harming anyone. Many of my friends and colleagues are gay, and to be honest the gay men I know are much nicer than many of the straight ones I know. They don't cheat on their partners, they don't treat women like crap, they don't lech after you. You can have a normal conversation with them without trying to think they want to get in your knickers or whatever. They are more sensitive, don't pick fights with each other, blah blah blah, I could go on forever. I think straight men can learn a lot from gay men. I do not know any lesbians to comment on, but i think they are less socially accepted than gay men. Maybe thats why I'm not aware of knowing any. Thats not counting those who consider lesbianism to be trendy and have lesbian affairs with their mates. I think this happens mostly in people of higher social class. The posher they are, the more likely they are to have a lesbian affair, but like I say, I think this is just a fashion, they are not really lesbians. You'd be suprised at how many upper classs married couples have the wives having lesbian affairs cos they are bored, lol. My friend once had a man say to her that his wife would like a lesbian fling with her. And this wasn't him wanting to watch, he wasn't even going to be there. My mate declined by the way. This is apparantly common with the english upper class land owner type people. Also celebs are doing it to an extent, think of all the female celebs that go to women strip clubs and pay for female lap dancers. I think thats very strange. HelenW
I know the point you are trying to make. In able for evolution to occur, there must be mutations, this is true. But it is still not normal. If it was normal, it would not be categorised as a mutation. In medicine and science the terms abnormal and normal must be used to differentiate between them. It is natural for abnormalities to occur. I was not however, trying to make a point about evolutionary theory here. Maybe it was a bad idea to use medical phenomenon to illustrate the concept of accepted abnormality. I was merely saying that there are some abnormalities that are accepted and do not require judgement. The hermit example was probably a better example of social abnormalities. Other examples are bigamy. Also monks and nuns who undertake a life of celibacy can not be considered normal, if the view is taken that people are here to reproduce offspring, to create the next generation of humans. Nobody attacks them for leading abnormal lifestyles though. I'm not sure on this, but I think in Islam, it is believed that it is each persons duty to have children. So childless couple would be considered abnormal, but again, nobody attacks childless couples.

Isn't normal kind of definitive when so many things in the world are very different. The opposite to normal isn't abnormal, it's different, and there is hardly anything in this world that it 100% identical. So to put it in a way that says some humans are normal and some are not, would be wrong, as that would say that if there were one normal person, somewhere, in this world, in order to be normal, we'd have to be exactly like them. A better term would have been average in which case homosexuality is completely fine. There is of course a minority of straight men who are like this. Not gay, but more sensitive towards women and more intouch with there emotions. I myself have plenty of female friends who are gorgeous, but when I talk to them, my main aim isn't to get into their knickers, it's never that, it's to have a good conversation with them. I find that I can talk to them about things that aren't about sport or even about makeup (of course that typecasting a bit, but you get what i mean) but sometimes we can have really meaningful conversations without and sexual tension or the heir of passion about. I'm not contradicting Helen in this way, she has every right to say what she said and I do believe that most of the straight men out there just talk to women for one reason and one reason only, but then, there are some people (like me, not saying I'm special, just different) that aren't like that. Oh, and last thing, whoever said that 6 toes were a bad thing. Whatever you could do with 10 toes, this person can now do with 11. I know that's not much, but that is still the advantage. Guybrush122
oh here we go again with the bible thing again. honestly, who's to say jesus wasnt gay? catholisism, christiantity....basically all religion is just a myth, preaching a way of life and explaining uncomprehensable things for instance, the theory of "God" explains the creation of man, the universe, and earth --- heaven and hell explains the question of what happens after you die and why you should be "good" throughout your life. and, i think, the reason why homosexuality is such a 'sin' is because christianity started during the later period of the Roman Empire, and in the Roman Empire (and the previous Hellenistic age) homosexuality was very accepted...christians being the minority and despising the Roman Empire decided to make all homosexuals sinners. and, for the record, homosexuals dont choose to be gay or turn gay (who would choose a harsh lifestyle like that??) theyre born gay. thats my standpoint. Joshi
this is true, i wouldn't choose to be gay as the whol;e social thing behind it is'ntr very nice (i.e. i wouldn't like the idea of people thinking differently about me because i was different) and plus i like girls. but then no one chooses to be gay, they either are, or they are not. those who seem to turn into a gay person was already gay adn just didn't know it.
