Rogue15
Originally posted by Aerothorn Ignore what Rouge said- that isn't the definition of RTS (Many RTS games don't have base building, for instance, like Homeworld). An RTS is a Real Time Strategy game- simply put, a strategy game that takes place in real time, as opposed to a turn based strategy game, where people take turns(like a board game). first of all, my name is ROGUE, not some makeup bull****ter from the moons of hell, second I gave a much better explanation than you did. What is real-time? what's a strategy game? what do you do in a strategy game, other than strategize? give a ****ing example! alright, i'll give another sortof an example.. There's a few different kinds of strategy games: City, these are generally non-warefare kinds that let you micromanage resources and make a city grow, etc, basically you get to be the mayor, example: Sim City Empire -kinda like city, but you also have the ability to buy military units War (for lack of better term =/ ) -You're given units at the beginning of the mission, and have to use those units to accomplish a goal there's many many kinds of rts'....which makes it hard to explain what they are like. But generally, you have to use your thinking skills to accomplish a mission, whether it be to have a certain amount of people in your city by a certain time, wiping out an enemy base, successfully defending your base from an attack, taking a group of units to infiltrate a base, etc. the good thing about strategy games is that they have alot of replayability, you can make maps for some of them, etc. Rebellion is a really good strategy game if you're into star wars and space. Guest Jed
Well, Rogue15 is right, most RTS are like what he described. I haven't played one that isn't how he described either, so as far as I'm concerned he's right. swatteam created a nice list of RTS games. * to swatteam* I'm going to add one game to that... --> Age of Empires Series (AoE, AoK, AoM)
Swat
oh ya, the age of empires. tanks 4 adding that
Guest Jed
No problem swatteam. Oh, and Civilization 3 is sort of like that....Microsoft is also releasing a RTS called Rise of the Nations or something like that.
Aerothorn
Originally posted by Rogue15 omg.... *dies laughing* ok ok, i'll tell you what it is... you build a base, and frmo their you buy units with money that you earn by either gathering resources or trading stuff or building something to give you resources. then you can build defenses for your base, like turrets and walls, and you can build a bunch of different units, which you can control independently depending on the game, usually you can, and send them to attack and hopefully defeat the enemy! sometimes there'll be shroud which means you can only see what your units see, and sometimes you cans ee everything at once. go to http://www.lucasarts.com/products and download galactic battlegrounds for an example of what an RTS is. Lets compare this to Homeworld, one of the most criticlly acclaimed RTS games... There is no base building. You cannot deploy walls or turrets Therefore, I feel your information applies to most RTS game, but not all, like you were implying it was. And you know, you don't have to cuss at me just because I had a different explanation.

Aerothorn
You can only get it from Fileplanet. It has a tech bug(It messes up the screen when I quit so I gotta restart after playing) but is very fun. The bad thing is at Fileplanet you gotta wait forever....I reccomend starting up the line waiting thing and then playing consoles till its ready.
