i dont know, but i understood it that there is a crack 100m deep and theres a door down there.

btw, am i the only 1 that noticed how unrealistic kjo and neil are being? do u really think that jamming a sword on a rock can stop u in a free fall? when u r falling, if u stick someting as long as a sword or even a knife, lil after entering a crack it will just incline and u ll keep falling. u wont even stop, though u might slow down. even if u should stope, you would probably break a wrist, a shoulder or a finger. and how are the odds of catching a fallen object with a=10m/s if u r holding to a wall? anyways, this is wot i do:

i examine the place. its preety much an ex-corridor, now more cave-like, with a huge crack, 100m deep. i kick down a middle sized stalagmite. using my glue, i stick it almost at the edge of the cliff. i put one side of my rubberband around it, and the other around my waist, then i go back to measure it. hum, about 14 meters. then i go down the cliff and stick my pocket knife at the lower point i can get (14m down). i take out my pocket knife, open the bottle opener side and put lil glue in it. not too much, just enought so it will stay stronger. than i jam it in the crack made by my pocket knife and attach the other part of my rubberband. its pretty strong, its almost 15cm wide. i climb up again and pick up as many small sized stones (cone form, about 20x20x5cm) as i can carry. not many, only 5. take out the rubberband from the attacched stalagmite and go down, trying to hold on the wall most of the time, to free my pocket knife from most of the impact of my fall.

i go down more 14 meters. found a crack, in where i put glue and jam one of the stones in it. than i put my rubberband around it (3PIxR of rubberband) and climb up to get my pocket knife back. i go down more 14m (42m now) and jam my pocket knife on the wall again (same procedure). go down more 14 (56m from the start) and jam another stone (same procedure). i go down more 14 meters and jam my pocket knife again. more 14 meters down but this time i dont find any cracks. damn. i have to go back up and stick my 3rd stone on another crack. take my pocket knife, go down the 14 meters and make a crack for the 4th stone (at 84 meters deep). this time i dont put glue, and i dont press the stone too hard into the crack. i go down more 14 meters, and now im only at 2 meter from the ground. i start pulling down my rubberband. after some minutes, the stone gets out of the crack and the rubberband falls down. i fall down 2 meters, not a problem. im at the bottom, pretty much unharmed, except for some scraches. and i hit my right thumb on the wall when i fell. i ll live.

i take a look at my items before i put them away. the rubberband is still pretty stong, though not as elastic. the pocket knife is also still strong, but again, not as new and sharp. i have about 2/5 of my glue left.

al, i'm not being unrealistic, like i said, when i stick the sword in the rock at 10m/s, the sword goes into the rock (i stick it in in a downward angle) but i keep going down, with the sword cutting through the rock as i go (very sharp sword). as i go down, i slow down due to friction with the sword and rock, i do not stop all of a sudden when i put the sword in (i knew then that that would be stupid) when i finally do stop, there isn't much force anymroe so i would break anything (plus i'm strong, or at least here i am).

secondly, i did the sword thing almost as soon as i started to fall near the wall (the description between when i reach the wall and when i stick my sword in is out of time of the story) so i wouldn't have reached the speed of earths gravity yet.

thirdly, yes, it would be quite hard to catch something falling 10m/s, but please note, this is a grapple attached to a rope, i only have to grab hold of the rope at any point and pull the grapple up to me.

and finally, this is a fantasy story, i'm pretty sure gandalf wouldn't have been able to survive the whole Balrog scenario, but he did. frankly, i think we're allowed a little poetic liscence as it makes for a better story.

Yesh, if you look at the picture of Tetsusiaga on the first page, it has a "hook" at the end where I can just use that to slow down the fall, not stop it, and I'm only falling a LITTLE of the 100m. So by the time my shoulder hits the ground protected by the shield, the combined protection of the shield and slowing momentum of the fall, I'd only get a bruise.

but still, when u stick a sword into the wall when u r falling (even if its inclined downwards), since u r holding only one side of the sword, after a second or so it works like a lever. the sword is inclined upwards and gets out of the crack. so it doesnt give u enough impact to slow down significantly, and even if it did, it would end up breaking your whrist and/or your shoulder.

and sure, i know this is a fantasy story, its just that it was starting to look too much like Vertical Limit, and that movie sucked so badly... :D

never saw it, but i know what your talking about and that bit does look like it wouldn't work, but hey, it looks so cool!

also yes, i suppos the sword would go into an upward angle after a while, but if done correctly, it should stay in a downward angle long enough to slow me down so when it starts going down, it stops at a right angle to the wall and so i'm fine. also again, it wouldn't be an all of a sudden stop, but more of a slow decrease of speed until stop in which case i wouldn't break anything.

of course none of this is possible, but then, neither is a Tetsusiaga so i think i'm safe. plus, i could ahve just swung down to the door, or to the other wall and climbed down the wall, this is just more exciting with a bigger adreniline rush, which is really what we all want :D

Meh, i don't care if it's a little unrealistic (or a lot, in fact quite a bit, in fact this is all impossible, meh), it's the fun of writing this kind of story that counts. :p i'm sure you al can appreciate that ;).

Right, this should clear out a few things...

http://www.freewebs.com/fromearth/pit.JPG

Some of you will have to adjust their story. Also, the sword-jamming thing doesn't sound too realistic, you can stick with it if you want, but I won't garrantee you'll live.

BTW!!! IN MY PIC IT MIGHT SEEM LIKE YOU'RE ABLE TO WALK AROUND THE PIT...YOU CAN'T! SO YOU HAVE TO GO FROM THE FIRST RED ARROW TO THE SECOND IN A PRETTY STRAIGHT LINE. SO AGAIN...YOU CAN'T WALK AROUND THE PIT!!!

Caps lock off :)

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA, deadmeat ddnt answer me!! :wailing:

btw, neil its only ; P or : p

assuming the corridor is 30m wide, and the hole has a 25 meters radius (its *almost* circular, as it showns in your drawing), and also assuming that the center of the hole is equally away from the 2 wall (to make it more dificult), one can easily figure out that the part of wall that doesnt have floor underneeth it is equal to 40 meters.

hum... crap, my rubberband should have been longer... like neil's 50 meters long rope...

nah, its ok, i can firure something out:

i find a big stone sticking out of one of the walls of the corridor (im assuming that only few meters away from the pit, the corridor becomes to look like a cave). the stone is quite big, so i put my rubberband around it. on the other side of the rubberband i attach my pocket knife with a knot, so it sticks out in a 90 degrees angle with the rubberband. ive used about 2 meters of rubberband in the knot and over the stone. 12 meters left. actually, only 11, i cant throw it that strong so it streaches out completelly. im 4 meters away from the pit, so i throw it and the pocket knife (that has lil glue on its blade) sticks in the wall 7 meters horizontally over the pit.

i pick up some medium sized pointy stones, tie my shirt so it works like a bag, in where i put the stones. by the rubberband, i go to where my pocket knife is stuck and stick and glue one medium sized stone. holding in one hand the upper side of my rubberband, i put the lower side of it around the medium sized stones a couple of times. i go back and take the other side of my rubberband. jump down with it and swing down. then i climb up to the medium sized stone and take out my pocket knife from the wall. i sit on the medium sized stone and take out my rubberband. doesnt look that stable, shouldnt stay much longer there. i throw the rubberband again, and the pocket knife sticks more 11 meters away.

i repeat the same process untill im 29 meters from the first edge, 11 away from the other edge (more or less). trow it again and the pocket knife sticks on the ground on the other side. im about to jump when the stone im standing collapses and i fall. luckly for me i manage to keep holding the rubberband. all i have to do is climb, but the impact of my fall has loosen up a lil the pocket knife in the ground. i keep climbing, its all i have left to do. when i reach the other edge, the knife frees itself from the ground and comes flying towards me. i try to go down, but before i go far enough, it reaches me. it hits my shirt (still in bag form, tied on my right shoulder) and it falls with the weight of the stones i was carrying. there goes half of my shirt (theres another half still tied on my shoulder). at least it wasnt my pants. i get to the other side and take back my rubberband and untie my pocket knife.

now i do wot i posted before

i have 1/5 of my glue left, and my pocket knife is all dirty and sticky, but its still a very good and very dangerous pocket knife.

I'm so gonna die this time... i aint got no fancy swords and stuff :(

oh well, let's try anyway...

I take my blanket and hold it up like a parachute, i then go back a few steps, and run!

As i get to the edge i jump as far i can, then open up the blanket and use it as a parachute to slow my fall, i then narrate myself to the door and put my feet on the ground...

that was easy, i had no other choice, although my story isnt' long as the others, i hope i wont die...*gulp*

Sorry, I'm not feeling well at the moment. :( But I'll give it ago. I'll try again.

I am back at the top and I throw my hook/rope down until it hits and hooks around the doorknob/pully or whatever. Then with my shield out to protect my shoulder I grab the rope as far up as I can and swing down. My shield hits the side of the wall taking most impact. Then I put it back on my side and climb up and up. When I reach the ledge I reach up and grab the edge of the cliff then climb up. I unhook my hook/rope and I'm on my way.

My somach starts aching again. Ohhhh....

Alright, don't got much time, I'll give the new assignment tomorrow, but first...who's dead?

Actually, I liked NiKo's story best. Plain, simple, effective. Also there wasn't much wrong with Kjo's new version. The loser had to be either Al or Neil. Al's story seemed pretty farfetched and was hard to follow, Neil's had some weird and impossible things...

And the losers is....

***drum roll***

Neil. Sorry mate, but your story contained some things that would be impossible. First, there's the moment when you stop from falling by jamming a sword in the wall...you were already pointed to it by Al, so I wont go over it again. Second, and for me the thing that made me pick you...when you're hanging on the wall, you throw your rope with grapple iron up...and it sticks??? In what? A virtually flat wall? Sorry, but that won't cut it for me...

So Neil falls to a painfull death, and rest continues...when I have the time :D

dang, im really sorry neil, i ddnt mean to take u out of the game, i was just trying to suggest that u should change it... really, IMO, i wouldnt even choose your story, i would take out niko's (of all stories, the most impossible IMO would be niko's cause u could never make a parachute just by holding a blanket with only 2 hands...)

anyways, hope i ll see you in the next game :)

btw,
