Area Size Comparison

I remember reading that in all, SWG is going to have about 2100+ square kilometers of area within the game. Does anyone know how large Norrath was, in square kil.? I heard somewhere else that one planet in SWG is going to be about as large as Norrath itself. If that's true, that's almost more space than anyone could explore...

Thats a good thing. That was the main problem when i played UO. Everyone knew where everything was. People were camping spawn sites not only for the spawn but to PK people that came there. Now we have a vast world that would be diffuicult for everyone to know everything about. I think i also read that spawn will be in random areas over all the planets. This is cool too.

will SWG have the size of earth and beyond or more? in some ways i hated earth and beyond cause it was repetitive, lets warp here then there and then there, and dont forget to warp there too... it was so boring, im glad this is mostly a ground MMORPG

Yes, that's right.

The total map size is 16x16 kilometers. That's 256 square km.

Times 10, that's a total map size, if you laid down all the maps next to eachother, of 2560 square km. I'm not really sure what you could compare it too in real life though. :)

BUT, the total playingarea of the maps are only 15x15 km, 225 square km.

They have put up an invisible wall 500 meters away from the end of the map in all 4 directions so that the area doesn't seem to suddently end abruptly. :)

This is real-life km. However, if you compare the map to Star Wars, particulary of Tatooine, they have actually scaled down the map quite abit. Why do I know this? Because in-game you will be able to visit both Mos Espa and Mos Eisley, which is actually around 200km apart. :)

Just a small extra, not so usefull, info there. :p

Well, I don't know what's in between the 2 cities, nor do I know the distance.

But the maps' size is measured from a birds perspective. It does not take into account hills, canyons and even mountains and lakes, so the distance would be longer between them. Also, it takes longer to go up hill than downhill in-game. :)

Wow. I let is set for four hours, and look how much useful information I get? :D

From what it sounds like, this is some heavy-duty area. But does anyone know how big Norrath was (I'm most familiar with EQ), because I'm trying to put this all together in my head.

Although I'd better stop soon, 'cause I'm getting dizzy. :(

Not to worry... It only gets bigger as patches and new releases come out. The Dev's are planning on expanding the worlds more and more. That is why the world is not a "donut" world, i.e. No world rap. You hit the border, go no further. I can only hope the dev's add somewhere around 15x15 sq. Km to each planet with every expansion. That would be... I do not know... I will say, superb. More and more to explore and room for new cities.

I have noticed an utter and total lack of smilies anywhere in this post.

in reallife time im estiamting an hour or 30 minutes

In real life, it will definatly take you more than 30 minutes, and atleast more than an hour.

Quenos to Freeport largest cities on Antonica in EQ (never tried it yet, but I've been told) takes about 30 minutes on foot. And that's, what, 1/3rd - 1/4th Norrath?
