Mix_Master2k Posted April 22, 2003 Posted April 22, 2003 Hey all, I'm making a map of an office building. When i look in one direction, the FPS are normal, about 60-70 with everything on high and 800-600 res. when i look in the other direction, the FPS spike down to 20-30. Now i know there is a leak, i did it on purpose so my map doesnt take hours to vis when i want to test it quick, but does it really effect the FPS that much? This happened in one of my other maps too. Ill have to build a skybox i guess, any other ideas? -Mix Master
wedge2211 Posted April 22, 2003 Posted April 22, 2003 Yes a leak will affect it, and the compile will be faster if you close the leak.
Leslie Judge Posted April 22, 2003 Posted April 22, 2003 Use a compile option with a fast vis phase! That will increase the FPS a bit compared to the non-vised map. If you leave a leak then vis will not run at all, so no precalculation of visible areas, so everything is drawn in your sight even if it is behind a wall.
Mix_Master2k Posted April 28, 2003 Author Posted April 28, 2003 hmmm, these are going to be tricky to close off, will a skybox do allowing it to vis?
Leslie Judge Posted April 28, 2003 Posted April 28, 2003 If you mean you want to make a big box around your map, then yes, it will let VIS to run but don't get used to it. That's not a real solution. And your FPS will no go up. I think a fast VIS is quite acceptable. And fix the leak.
