How to make internet severs!

jedinick_1988

Recommended Posts

1) Open JKII

2) Select Play->Create Server

3) At the bottom of the screen there should be a choice for server type, select that until it reads "Internet"

4) Set up all desired settings and map for the server

5) Create Server

Note: If you want to create a server with mods, first go to JKII main menu, select Setup->Mods, then click on the mod that you want to play with, and click "Load Mod". Then follow the steps above.

Also, if you want to play on it too;

Once you've got your console window, minimize it down (if you like) and start JO from your shortcut again.

This will start a second JO, in which you can join the server you just created, just like you'd join one normally.

I should point out that your computer may struggle a little running two JO's at the same time (mine does), if not, then you're sorted! :D

When you say "console window", what do you mean exactly? The startup window, or when you are actually in the game menu?

And what do you need to do to have it show up in other people's server list?

Okey's, here's what I do (this works for me :p )

Note: I play JO 'windowed'. Which is to say that in the Setup / Video options, I've got Full Screen set to Off. That way I can Alt/Tab my way around different windows as normal (it won't let me do this if I play Full Screen)

From the MP menu, Select Play, Create Server.

Setup your server as you normally would: Eg. A FFA game, on Bespin Streets with 8 players. Don't forget to give the server a name you'll recognise (click after Server Name and type something there)

In the middle column, in the third block of options, you'll see Dedicated Server, which will probably be set to No. Click it once and it'll change to LAN (if your'e setting up a server for a local network of computers), and again to Internet - which is what we want.

If you want a passworded game for your friends, type the password in the entry below (don't forget to tell your mates what it is via messenger etc). If you leave this blank, anyone will be able to join your game.

Click Begin. You'll get a black box filled with yellow writing. This is your Console Window. (You can do all sorts form here but that's another story...)

On the top-right of this window will be the standard Windows Minimize/Maximize/Close buttons. If you want the console out of the way for now, click the Minimize button.

Next off, Start JO again as normal.

This time, click Play and Join Server. The in-game server-browser appears. Make sure Source is set to Internet, and the Type matches the one you've set up (FFA, Duel etc)

Click Get New List and you should see your server in the list somewhere. Join as normal and your're away. Your friends can do the same.

Hope that helps,

B.

PS: Whenever i've tried just creating a server as normal (ie. without 'dedicated') and then gone to Join Server in a second JO, I can't see the server I've just created.

As far as I know this is the only way to set up a server you and your friends can play on, on the internet, other than reserving a corporate one.

Although if I'm wrong, please correct me on this.

Peace out. :D

Thanks for your help, but when I start up the game, it starts loading and says this.

Once you get your 'sending heartbeat to Ravensoft' message, that's your server set up, the console window is all you get with a dedicated server.

If you set Dedicated server to LAN, it'll show up on the Local Area Network when you search for it, you need to set it to Internet. You shouldn't be able to set it to both at the same time.

You are leaving the 'dedicated server' version of JO open while you start up a second one aren't you?
