JLASuperman
Anyone have any idea as to why JK2 would freeze for no reason, at random times? I have the 1.4 update. My computer has 256 mb RAM running and AMD xp2000 processor with a Nvidia Gforce4 128 mx video card. The OS is Win XP pro SP1 The game runs great, no stutters, no frame rate problems nothing that even hints to the fact that it's gonna freeze, then all of a sudden it just locks up!! Any ideas? Sam Fisher
From what I've seen, there has been no fix for that. Try reinstralling it.
JLASuperman
Yeah, I've tried re-installing with and without the updates. I tried running in safe mode and in all different resolutions. I even tried the xp compatibility mode for 2000 and 98...The game wouldn't even load under either of those.
Hekx
It does sound odd... Have you tried closing down other program running in the background? Does it happen in single-player and multiplayer, or both?
UncleBen
Yeh I have just recently tried to play single player and it usually freezes for no reason too.
Andy867
From yours specs, I can point out the problem beyond any reason of a doubt... The OS is Win XP pro SP1 That SP1, aka Service Pack 1, is the problem. I've done some private diagnostics on machines with and without SP1, and in 94% of the trials, the SP1 crashed randomly, despite the machines having identical hardware and software. Machine One: Windows XP Pro AMD 1600 Seagate 60GB GeForce 4 Ti4200 with Detonator FX Drivers Sound Blaster Live! X-Gamer 768 MB PC2700 RAM Asus A7V333 Machine Two Windows XP Pro SP1 AMD 1600 Seagate 40 GB GeForce Ti4200 With Detonator FX Drivers Sound Blaster Live! X-Gamer 768 MB PC2700 RAM ASUS A7V333 in both machines, Jedi Outcast was installed with separate CD's, each being full Installl, and having the 1.03 and 1.04 patches installed, respectively. Both were run at 800x600x16 and in Machine One, it ran 49 out of 50 trials successfully, whereas Machine Two only ran 3 out of 50 Trials.
JLASuperman
Guess theirs no way to fix that unless you reinstall XP without sp1 huh? Does anyone know if Lucas Arts is aware of the problem? I have several other games and none of them freeze, so it must be JK2 specific.
Andy867
I heard from a couple support people that it has to do with Service Pack 1 and and its implementation of new offline security features or something like that, and with Jedi Outcast, it somehow conflicts (not sure how) but thats the funny thing about computers.
