Rainer511
What is some good software for modelling? What is the best commercial software and are there any good freeware alternatives? I've used Blender before, but I don't think you can use it for making models in JK2. Also I would like to know if the suggested software is any good at just making 3D pics in general and not just modelling.
Hellfire Jedi
If you plan on making jk2 models, 3dsmax 4 and up works to rig them. But if you do them in Milkshape/GMax, your work is not lost! Just find a nice, person with 3dsmax and have them rig it for you! The 3d pictures...I might be thinking 3dsmax has a rendering system (I'll check my max out later), rendering makes the model, in a sweet area, to your likings...If my memory serves me right.. CortoCG
actually you can succesfully create models for jo and prolly ja with 3ds max 4 and up and Softimage 1.5 and up. Both of them are out of this world modelling/rendering/animating programs, but Softimage is a little better, the workflow is better, and get used to it very fast. Nowever, it is very very expensive, and the free EXP verision of it won't let you get anywhere, so I recomend you to purchase 3ds max 4 or up. But, if you are wealthy enough you should definately adquire SI.
Emon
Valve is releasing some kind of exporter, I think XSI, for softimage|exp with their SDK. It's fairly likely it's a true XSI exporter, if so we might be able to use it.
BoBo_Fett
Take a look at Wings3D. It's a great polygon modeler and it's free. http://www.wings3d.com/
