  1. Somehow time keeps passing, and it’s been over 25 years since Mixnmojo opened. Jason got a bunch of past and present staff to take a look back over the decades and pick their favorite articles from the site. (I took the most harassing to turn in my homework!)

Not sure if anyone else has any Mojo nostalgia, as that is admittedly a weird thing to have, but if you do, drop some memories or trivia or whatever it is in here.

  2. I really liked the needle drop. All the 60s period decor seems really well done. They’re going for all the banal parts and hitting it well. Indy’s living room looks perfect for where he presumably is in his life.

Haha, but I think that's not his hip bone, but part of his coat design.

But now it looks like his buttocks and and I can't unsee it!

What could work for building a MI1 Lechuck, is making it gigantic.

This way the small outline may work with regular blocks, but you'd have to spend a lot of money on Legos, I guess.

It’s his hip bone and his coat does show his skeleton underneath. (You can see it more clearly in paintings done by Purcell around that time.) It doesn’t make any sense but it’s an awesome design.

In Return, I guess Ron just went with it 🤷‍♀️

Which thing did he go with? LeChuck has the wedding gown in his quarters, yes, which is creepy as hell, but he again doesn’t really care about Elaine as part of the plot or most of his dialog. It feels closer to MI1 and 2, where mostly he is interested in obtaining power/treasure, and smushing Guybrush.

  5. Some people just want to look at a shelf near their desk and see a bunch of things they like to think about. If the thing you like is “I hunted this down on eBay and second hand shops for four years, and it’s from the original run!!!” amazing, good for you. Many people love to buy first edition books for this reason. They do have something special to them. But some people just want any copy of the thing. Some people like all the little extra drop-ins. Some people like that this new release is going to be consistently designed to make a matching shelf. Not everyone is the same.

Saying “I just don’t get why someone else would like this” is disingenuous at best or self-damning at worst because all it really means is “I don’t like this.” If you don’t like that someone else likes it, get over yourself. If you really truly genuinely can’t see the world through someone else’s eyes enough to imagine what fun they might see in a thing you don’t like as small as a re-release of a retro game, it’s maybe time for some serious self reflection.

I just can't wrap my head around the added value of owning a 2023 re-release by a second party. To me, the real value comes from the original boxed copies, they're relics from a bygone era. The value comes from the nostalgia of buying them when they were released, or tracking down a copy and going through the extra hoops to acquire it. Reprinting them and selling them more cheaply, even if they're licensed, to me feels "fake".

    Okay.

  7. Based on earlier posts from Ron, the tile set seems to be from Kenny game assets, a really amazing free library of art you can use when making a game. That makes it hard to know if he’s planning on shipping with those or if it’s just a quick way to prototype something that is easy on the eyes while in development.

Apologies if this has been discussed already (I actually haven't played more than a few minutes of the game yet and am staying out of this thread until I do), but:

RTMI supports 4:3, which reveals portions of the image hidden in 16:9 mode and arguably looks better..?

The game is almost built like a responsive website. If you play it on an ultrawide display you can also get extra widescreen content here and there. The crop can change dynamically depending on the ratio. This must have been done with phones/tablets in mind, where there are no set ratios but modern devices range from about 19:9 to something around 4:3.

For those of you that like listening to audiobooks, I cannot recommend enough Bronson Pinchot's reading. It's absolutely fantastic, with wonderful voice work for all the characters. The prologue alone is immediately gripping.

My copy of the book, BTW:

I think this is the original cover? The only actually good one of the bunch.

the actual first edition has that cover and also has good typography. It’s weird watching the look of this book rot away over the decades by way of this thread. Example: (not my copy)

My guess would be that the Tales team took for granted that Boen was fully retired so didn't ask, but the remake team went ahead and asked anyway.

Pretty much this. His appearance in the SEs plus fan pushback meant telltale reached out again and got him for LeChuck’s return in the finale.

Hi everyone! I'm still playing catch-up so forgive me if this was mentioned earlier. I have 25 pages left to read in this thread.

Something I haven't seen mentioned anywhere else yet: The END OF THE GAME is what they used to PROMOTE THE GAME. They created an actual Melee Island set for Gamescom, and everyone was playing around, taking photos and enjoying the whimsy and excitement of a new Monkey Island game, completely unaware that they were walking around in the final room. That must have been super surreal for the people who knew!

Ok. Back to playing catch up...excited to read everyone's theories!

I think we talked about it somewhere in the thread when people first made the connection. It’s pretty great!!!

also welcome to the thread :)
