Try selecting the parts of the armor you want green, then desaturating them. Then you can add your green and use the layering effects to make it look realistic.
I'll try that out, but its not so much a problem with the shades I'm selecting, but with the texture of the armor. The texture makes it look plastic-y.
Hmmm... Well, like I said: Hockey and Ulmont know more about this than I do. I've never actually had time to go through the process more than once before my UnrealEd crashed.
