Kurgan
Well after many headaches, I finally got the JA Demo running at a respectable 35-60 FPS (depending upon the level and number of enemies on the screen at once of course). I DOWNGRADED my Nvidia Detonator drivers to version 43.45 (IIRC) and then tweaked a few settings. I checked on the 'net and apparently a lot of cards had problems with games in that latest set of drivers, at least according to what I read. - Turned off the Force Feedback Mouse - Turned Anistrophic (sp?) Texturing all the way to the left (off) - Turned off Detailed Shaders And now its perfectly playable in Medium Detail (world & model), with EAX sound, simple shadows, footsteps, dynamic lights, that pretty glow option (yes!), and default depth at 1024x768. I also turned off "sync framerate to monitor refresh" but I can't really tell if that helped much or not. Load times are also drastically DEcreased (40 seconds instead of 2 minutes and Quickload cruises). My desktop depth is still set to 16-bit, but IIRC, I was able to use 32-bit with JK2 and it never made any difference (and JK2 also was set to default depth in game). WhiteShdw
With your config you should be running it at 200 FPS Originally posted by boinga1 200 FPS? Holy freaking kay-rud! JDKnite188
The tomb map ran almost flawlessly on my machine. On the other hand, I had major framerate troubles when the skybox was visible in Tatooine. Does anybody have an idea to resolve this?
CHeavyarms
Alright, i got about 85 - 95 fps on average, but sometimes dropping to 70. Right now i have 1024x768 everything on high and default. I dont have antialiasing or dynamic shader, but i have simple shadows, when i had dynamic on I was doing horrible when strafing. I turned off video sync cause it kept me leveled out at 60fps. I'm gonna do some more testing on different saber modes and different settings.
OSIFRACRAT
After a fresh restart I get pretty decent 20 - 30 fps or more when in the temple. I run on: P3 1ghz Geforce 4 MX 440 448 RAM Win XP Directx 9.0b I think I am also running nvidia's older 44.03 drivers (newer drivers apparently are giving ppl problems.0 So you people with the awesome rigs shouldn't be having any problems. Kurgan
Of course Raven has stated before that the game is capped at 85 FPS for a reason (it can chug and throw off the physics if it gets too high).
Rassick
My PC: Windows XP AMD 2600+ 1024MB PC-2100 DDR RAM 256MB Gainward GeForceFX 5900 Ultra 200GB Hard drive Latest drivers I have basically everything in JK2 maxed and I can usually get between 180-250FPS.... In JA I rarely top 50. I turned dynamic glow off and it's improved my performance somewhat, but I don't even know what it does, so.... But I don't know why people bitch about getting 100 FPS instead of 200. After all, without a framerate counter on, you eyes cannot physically tell the difference between a game running at 60FPS and a game running at 300. Raspster
Well, The problem I am having is when the saber is drawn out. I had this problem with JK2 and my frames would drop big time when the saber was ignited and used. Put it away and better fps. Now I did alittle research and narrowed it down to the jk2config file in the base folder. I copied an older version of it when I did not have this problem and the fps were perfect again. Now the same thing is happening with JKA. In the config file there are certain engine commands that are saved in there to change things at start-up in the game. One of those things are altered to give the high fps with the saber out. Still tryin to locate the command. If anyone knows, please post it. DarkLord60
Well I wouldn't mind the 100FPS heck I dont mind 60 but whenit jumps from 40 to 100 constantly it bugs me its hard on the eyes.
gregsuarez
I think generally people don't realize and don't care if they're not playing a game at a blazing fast frame rate as long as whatever frame rate they are experiencing is stable. As soon as a steady frame rate becomes erratic, that's when people have the most complaint.
chemist143
my framerate keeps making huge jumps when i use my lightsaber or any guns, one second the fps will be at 60 the next its at 10-20. i guess ill try downgraging my drivers like kurgan said maybe thatll do something about it... I have that to, the tomb level is fine and thats strange because its so big, i get a steady fps of about 20-30 which sounds worse than it actually is, its fine and very smooth, although in tatooine i get a framerate drop when im outside in the pads or even inside in the tractor beam room, i also get some choppiness but only a tiny tiny amount. I think the fps drop is very strange as tatooine is much smaller and hasnt as much view distance as the tomb which runs fine, maybe ill try reinstalling vid drivers. Can someone ansewer our question? Btw everything is pretty much maxed out 32bit colour and high detail for everything and 1024x786, one thing i did turn down is the anrisopic filtering and im using bilinear textures, it doesnt really make any difference and the game still looks great. I dont want to put my setting down for tatooine because the tomb level which should be the one falling in fps is the one that runs the smoothest. So it cant really be any of those settings. I was just thinking at what jknite said about the skybox, the tomb doesnt have the skybox but the docking bay does. Maybe thats to account for the chuggy fps sometimes. megatron
On the second demo level - challiandry (or something) when I do a reload the computer mostly hard locks. If I choose to load a saved game instead ( at the very same point) it less frequently locks up! JKII also crashed for me.
gregsuarez
I finally got the second demo level (the underground cult thing) to work correctly all the way through! I uninstalled the demo, downloaded the updated drivers for my ATI Radeon 9800, and then re-downloaded and re-installed the demo. I also dialed down the resolution from 1600x1200 to 1280x1024, but kept the trilinear setting on and AF slider about halfway up; every other setting is maxed (EAX is off). It ran the entire level just fine - it never locked up or crashed - and the frame rate was reasonably steady; it chugged slightly from time-to-time. I must say that I disagree because my friends have found out that I CAN tell the difference between 60 and even 100FPS. My eyes notice the slightest hint of drop in FPS. But I've noticed that turning off shadows, FF on mouse, dynamic lights, light flares, and keeping the graphic detail at high @800x600, I can get between 100 and 200 FPS WinXP Pro AMD XP 1900 Gainward GeForce 4 Ti4800 SE Golden Sample 768 MB PC-2700 DDR RAM Seagate Barracude 80GB HD
