Siege Opinions...

Well, WadeV1589 of the StarGate4REALJA mod WAS planning on releasing a Siege map that dealt with a Goa'uld Ha'tak(mothership) that was going to be in space and an underground temple, and there was even a news post on it, but due to lack of the community's support for offering assistance, the idea was scrapped, and the map is now being coverted to strictly FFA/CTF. And to think it will flying vehicles to help, plus ring transporters, a working Stargate/GateTravel. PLUS the ability to fly from Space to the planet with the temple and vice versa, but guess it doesnt matter anymore.

I love the idea of Siege, team play TFC style with classes and all could just be so great. However, of the three maps avaliable, Hoth is the only one I really enjoy. The saber only Korriban is OK, but I'm not such a keen saberist. The desert one is a cool map, but far, far too large for me...it just seems to be people getting lost and confused.

I hope we see some great Siege maps from the editing community, along with SP it is the most needed area for new work. However, its clearly hard to do and takes a lot of dedication, time and energy to finish one. Monsoontide, the man behind Anchorhead, the SAGA map for JO, is working on a possible JA Siege map based on Endor, with some preliminary screenshots, over in the showcase area of these forums. H'es looking to hear about how interested the community is - show some support Siege lovers :)

I really, really hope we see some more Siege levels, it would bring me back to JA MP I am sure.

Class + Objective based team multiplayer is such an underused game mode in online FPS games, and since the SP SDK will NOT BE RELEASED (not unless LA drastically changes their attitude, remember the JK2 one was never released either) Siege is where it's at for expandability (since you won't have the freedom to modify SP as you wish in the same way).

Are you guys serious?

In an idea Siege mode is great, and I kinda like it sort of.. but what we got currently isn't very good.

I like playing objective team based games. They are the best for online teamplay.

I feel siege as compared to other FPS/online games with objective style playing is very unballanced and weak.

Give me some examples of how it is unbalanced and weak, I'm curious...

Are you sure you are not just so used to playing other games that you can't stand JA being different? Remember that JA has to juggle Jedi and force powers in the mix.

I'm not saying its perfect, but I'd like some examples of how it needs to improve, not just "well this other game is so much better."

The interface is bad to see your objectives.

Radar (and the team overlay) works for me. Do you need a big blinking arrow to tell you where to go?

You shouldn't feel lost looking for what needs to be done. Also the classes don't feel ballanced.

The classes feel balanced to me. What exactly is the problem? Does one class dominate all? Is one class useless? How should they be balanced (if you had it to do)?

I have no problem finding objectives as the Radar shows me exactly where they are and which ones are incomplete, it also shows me the location of nearby teammates (and I can use the team overlay to see where they are on the map even if they're out of site of the radar).

The gun weapons are very poor ( splash damage only?).

What are you talking about? The guns are not splash damage only (ST Rifle, Primary Repeater, Disruptor, BlasTech, Secondary Concussion Rifle, EWEB, Emplaced guns.. etc)?

This guns aren't exactly useless (even the BlasTech which is next to useless in normal games at least can get kills when the enemy doesn't have a saber and Force Speed).

The Jedi feel useless.

I have to laugh, have you ever played as a Jedi on Hoth? He can jump the chasm easily, and extend the bridge, likewise he can take two major shortcuts (droid head and getting to the Command Center). Likewise he can easily deflect shots from the sentry guns that would kill other players. And he has mind trick (gasp!)!

Sure the Dark Jedi can't hack away and destroy the command center all by himself but he saves a ton of time for his team on certain objectives and time is the key to winning, plus he can defend and move much faster than anybody else. The Jedi is a support class and he does a good job of it.

How take the Light Jedi on Hoth, he can use Push to send back rockets and push the Dark Jedi into the chasm. His saberstaff rips up the AT-ST if he's clever and he can deflect shots and use seeing (only if he's close by) to detect an invisible Dark Jedi.

Now you take the Jedi on Desert, whoa.. those are some uber l33t jedi! Dual Sabers for the Rebel and Saberstaff for the Merc! And they have enough force to rip up the enemy to distract while the others continue to their objectives. Did you know that on a Swoop bike a Jedi can swing his saber AND fire the Swoop's gun at the SAME TIME?

And don't get me started on Korriban, all of the Jedi have their uses and are very fun to play!

I feel the game mode needs more modding or something to make it better.

I want more missions just like everybody else, but the core missions as they are don't require any tweaking as far as I'm concerned (though I would like to see bot pathing & bot orders added).

It has so much it can be, but falls short.

Letting players have more options in this game mode would have been better.

Like what? Customizable force powers for Jedi? Good luck balancing it then buddy, you'd have to rework the entire class system.

Pickupable weapons and items? Same deal. What other options were you thinking of adding?

I really don't think siege is as good as compared to other objective team games.

Well here's the thing, it has two things no other game has right now: Jedi (with sabers & Force) and Star Wars (weapons, vehicles, environment).

Sure there's the UT2k3 mod but it lacks the variety (no Jedi, basically just two characters and 5 weapons and very few maps).

Star Wars Battlefront won't be out until later this year and it won't feature Jedi or Force, and for all we know there won't be free editing...

The map shortage is another. This mixed with high lag... Most my buddies from JK2 complain that the siege mode doesn't have what they liked about this series or bought it in the first place. To play as a Jedi in a team style game online...Lightsaber, Force = fun.

Why don't they play Korriban then? That's nothing but Jedi and Force, straight up.

The thing is though, the people who just want to play as Jedi generally are perfectly satisfied to do "honorable duels" in JK2 for the rest of their natural lives. They don't care about team games or objective based play or classes. Thus they don't care about Siege and never will, no matter how much it changes.

Besides, people can always make more "all Jedi" Siege maps like Korriban, there's nothing stopping them.

It made me mad reading interviews from raven and they say they play Counter Strike alot...and then they give us this..(SOF2 had an objective mode) playing CS should have given them enough insight to develop a good objective based play mode with better game play.

Not necessarily. CS had its flaws, it had rampant cheating problems, people got pissed when each patch changed any little thing, it was full of whiners, plus the fact that you got money to buy weapons was annoying to many players (slows down the game, due to longer time to wait before you can get into the action) and the fact that a team that was ahead would pretty much stay in the lead due to the money thing.

Did you expect it to be identical to CS? Oh well, maybe Republic Commando will make you happy (oh wait, it won't have Jedi, nevermind).

I'm not saying you can't like Siege, but I think you're being unfairly critical of it for the wrong reasons.

I understand the push to get it out but sloppy game modes just make the game bad and turn players off the game. With poor hit detection the game just falls short.

Game play is everything...

Wait a minute, I thought the game was all about sabers & force? If so, then Siege doesn't detract from gameplay (since it doesn't add anything). People are perfectly happy with sabering in JK2 and JA is virtually the same (or so they keep insisting on these forums week after week) with a few new moves and cosmetic changes.

I have never heard anybody complain that JA was not worth it because of Siege. Most people I talk to got the game because it was Star Wars, or because they wanted to pretend to be a Jedi online, or because they liked Jedi Outcast. Siege is just one of many game modes in JA, the newest and least realized perhaps, but nonetheless it's not the entire game. There's a lot to like in JA MP (CTF, FFA, Team FFA, Duel, not to mention Jedi Vs. Merc, Sabers Only, etc).
