The republic will change into the empire.

I gues al the republican forces will do the same thin so it doesn't suprise me they look like star destroyers.

I think this is something they put in the movies to start laying a bridge between the tree triolegies

I read that the Republic will actually evolve those assault ships into Victory Class SDs (or at least construct VSDs instead of assault ships). Later on, the Empire starts to build the traditional SDs.

However, I doubt we will be able to drive a SD in the game, so it might be better to move this in the off-topics.

Besides I think you see a bit of a different model in episode resembling a SD even more. Only somewhat smaller. I think the average assult ship is 600 meters while the average SD is 1200 meters so I suposse it could have been a earlier devlopment.

That's one thing that's kinda bothered me, how quickly classes of ships seems to be replaced especially in the leadup towards the OT. I mean within 30-35 years they have these Republic class SDs, then the ones in EPIII, then Victory, and then the OT version we are all used to. And in that tiny time period the Empire built thousands upon thousands of each class of these? That just seems silly as a waste of resources and like a bit much. Then again, it also seems silly to not learn that maybe a Death Star isn't the easiest thing to defend and go at it again...

I don't think it stretches the bounds of possibility too much.

At times of conflict, that is usually when new developments are fast-tracked to cope with what the enemy is throwing at you - so it would make sense during the Clone Wars for technology to leap forward, and for newer and better machines and weapons to be produced. Then as the Empire expands and tries to dominate other worlds which start fighting back, they have to adjust their tech to match their opponents.

Look at how many different kinds of vehicles and weapons were produced during World War II. Compare the figher aircraft of WW I and WWII to see massive leaps in technology - yet those wars were only 20 years apart.

IN the Star Wars universe, with it's massive planet-wide production facilities, I would imagine it's entirely possible to churn out Starships in short order...

Mm I suppose you are right. I started thinking about the fact that the US alone has gone through 3 different classes of attack subs in the past 40 years alone. I guess it's the logistics that bother me, that just seems like a lot of resources to completely outfit your fleet with a brand new class every ten years. Especially given the fact that we hardly see any Victory class in the OT and never see any of the old Republic versions. Despite the overwhelming might and breadth of the Empire it just seems extreme to me that every few years they built a completely new and operational fleet of the size neccesarry.

Actually, Star Destroyer's were the first of its kind. Then, later on, the Empire required a vessel which was similiar to the Star Destroyer in lethality but quicker and small which lead to the Victory-Class Star Destroyer.

This is all according to the X-Wing/TIE Fighter/X-Wing Vs. TIE Fighter/X-Wing Alliance in-game encyclopedias.

And, yeah... how DOES this relate to Battlefront in anyway?

I think they are the same, but the imperial ones are better since they reliy on technology more then the rebels do. I also think that the imperial star destroyer is more tirangular and flat.
