Joshi
So Lucasfilm.com has just updated it's website, so what do I do? I flock on down there to see what all the fuss is about (okay so I'm a little interested) considering I've never been there before. Knowing only little bits and pieces about the companies history, I thought I'd give their history page a try (which turns out to be quite a number of flash pages, I feel sorry for the 56ker's using IE). On one of there pages is this text. 1977 Star Wars opens may 25th and becomes the largets grossing film of all time. Okay, now correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't that and still is 'Gone with the Wind'? Could it be that the great George Lucas (whom has come out with both, not so good, prequels to the Star Wars saga and turned down good scripts for Indy IV, I might add) may just be wrong. Discuss (or prove me wrong and shoot me down, whichever comes first)

ThunderPeel2001
At the time it may well have become the highest grossing movie when you don't take into account inflation. Cleopatra has the largest budget of any movie, but that's only if you take into account inflation.
