Changes to all lightsabers

I've been playing through the game and I feel that light sabers are underpowered (the game is easy, but lightsabers should be more powerfull). To fix this I wanted to make all lightsabers more powerfull. So, can I add an attack bonus and a defense bonus to them? I saw a column in the baseitems.2da for the lightsabers called I think enhanced defense, but didn't see anything for attack. The other possibility would be to change the color crystals, but I'm not sure exactly how I'd do that (I found upcrystal.2da, but not sure how to mod it). Also, if I change the color crystals or the base items, would it make the enemies light sabers stronger too?

 Underpowered? Do you mean without considering crystal upgrades or with?

I don't have many crystals yet, but what bothers me is that the game has sword fights between a lightsaber wielding character and a character with a sword. I thought that lightsabers were supposed to cut through anything. The game itself is easy and I know the lightsabers are the best weapon in the game already, but it just feels wrong to me to have a sword parry a lightsaber. Thats why I want to make sure it would make opponent's light sabers better too, and not just the player ones.

Also I'm trying to think of ways to make the game more challenging if I do this. I wish I could make it spawn more enemies, but I don't think thats possible. Another possibility is to make blasters stronger (I guess I really feel that melee weapons are stronger than they should be).

Jacking up the damage a lightsaber is a poor subsitute for not being able to damage an opponent's weapon, though, and IMO it will only make the game even easier than it already is.

The reason the swords can be used against lightsabers is because they are made with cortosis alloy. It is one of the few substances that can withstand a lightsaber blade. If you played jedi Outcast the shadowtrooper armour used this. It doesn't matter how much you increase the saber damage, the swords will still be able to block it.

But if you want them more powerful, why not just use the super crystals? They make the saber ridiculously overpowered.

Don't ware any armour or robes, don't use any special items, don't use any crystals, and don't level up to 20. That will make the game harder :)

Actually I wasn't going to change the damage. I wanted to add an attack bonus and a defense bonus. Though the more I think about it, I may just make melee weapons less effective (not sure how though), cause thats what my real problem is.

Thanks prime, I guess I missed that about the cortosis alloy before. Does make me feel a little better about the game. My problem wasn't with the damage of the sabers, I never said I wanted to increase that. And as for the ways you posted to increase difficulty, they are possible, but I wanted to try to mod it into the game (like increasing number of enemies, or something like that).

Yeah, I'm not sure if it possible to increase the enemies right now. One thing that might be possible is increasing the number of attacks per round. That would speed things up anyway. As far as balance is concerned, I would say that the basic blasters are underpowered, if anything. But I don't think there is a way to increase the damage of all of them across the board. You'd have to do it individually. But that is easy enough. I created a DL-44 heavy blaster pistol with minimal effort...

I'm at work right now, but later tonight between playing more, I'll try to see how easy/difficult some of my ideas are. I think I'll start with beefing up the blasters. I'm sure I'll be back with more questions.

Edit: Just wanted to add a thanks for being helpful. About the number of enemies, would that possibly be in a script that spawns them (I know that would mean finding ever spawn script for enemies and changing them all, which I doubt I'd do, cause thats a lot of work).

You could edit the .git files for the modules in which you wish to add more enemies. However, if you spawn too many enemies you will slow down the game.

Another possibility is to make blasters stronger

You could use those killer blasters available with cheats :D

I think the code is "g_w_blstrpstl020" but i'm not sure.

Actually, the game sort of makes up for this. If you go up against a lightsaber with a sword, you get sparring damage in addition to whatever you would have normally done. The only exception to this is if you're using an Echani blade of some sort (they have cortosis embedded in them). I think a couple of other swords have it too, but not very many (Ajunta Pall's blade?)

I never noticed the sparing damage, I guess cause I'm always the one with the lightsaber. Just wondering if the rules system is based on the pen and papper rules... cause I don't think its well balanced. (I love the game, thats why I'm even at this forum and thinking about modding it).

Sparring damage?

To my knowledge it is pretty close to the pen and paper version, at least in the general mechanics. No doubt some of the finer details have been changed, but the combat is probably used as is.

Criticisms are always welcome. :) No one will rag on you for having complaints...

I think that sparing damage may only be for added spice to the game.

If you want to make the game more difficult why not download Talchia's Hardcore MOD 1.0

The Hardcore mod will buff the attributes of the enemy if you reach a specific level. Raise the difficulty in three steps (Level 8, Level 12, Level 16).

this WILL make enemies more difficult.

What that text is saying is that the sword itself doesn't take any damage from a lightsaber due to having a cortosis weave in its alloy. In KotOR this is only flavor text, whereas in the P&P RPG rules a sword without a cortosis weave would take damage every time it's struck by a lightsaber and with enough strikes it would be sundered/destroyed.
