Don't dumb down SWBF!

Many of you have been watching and waiting and could contest to the changes we've seen in the past month. Why is it the earlier screen shots and even the listing of faction classes point to a more involved (should I say complex) game? Now it appears there will be only 5 classes per faction. I guess 5 is the magic number set by the precident in BF1942. Does it have to be that way? In some screenshots you see classes and weapons which don't fit the new standard (think about the discussions over the IMP classes). I understand when working with deadlines you can't always make something you set out to but a common misconception is titles need to be "dumbed down" to be successful on the console market.

PC Gamer had a great piece on this when talking about Ghost Recon 2. It basically said sacrificing what made the original game great to capture a broader market isn't good. What makes a game good for PC SHOULD make it good for consoles.

I'm afraid this is what's happening but I hope I'm wrong. Maybe they consider console users to be less sophisticated afterall the units are made solely for games and the controllers have on average only 10 buttons. Does that mean a well rounded, involved game would be too much for the average console user (male age 11-19). I think they're selling them and the game short.

I'm with Nevhision. We already have a Deathmatch-Frag game, JK. Battlefront is all about scary action, fast reflexes, great teamwork, and of course, Star Wars.

The only thing I'm worried about is the lethality of the weapons. BF:42 has gotten pretty frustrating for me as of late because soliders take like 4 hits in the body and still not go down, and furthermore can still run around and bunny-hop-wiggle-wiggle like they were brand new. If you can get three rounds off on a guy, and they're still able to bust out of it, jump around all fancy and kill you, it eliminates the need for tactical and strategical planning. If all you have to do it wait for them to shoot you and then hop around and unload on them, then why try to play smart? Hence the issue.

If you're cunning enough to get the jump on a guy, it should not be that easy for them to bust out of it. I really hope that 2-3 shots with a standard blaster will take down any foot soldier, and that the game engine won't allow this fish flopping stuff that has become the favorite "can't touch this" move of BF (basically you jump, then at the height of the jump, go prone, then once you hit the ground, hit the prone button again so you pop back up - repeat indefinately. Nearly impossible to hit). I'm already worried about the tuck-and-roll dodge I've seen in the trailers. People use that move to no end in JKII and it gets pretty annoying.

I also hope that if you're injured, it affects your speed and ability to jump. If you're 3 clicks away from death, there's no reason why you should be able to run as fast as a newly spawned character, or should you be able to jump as high, or as often (if at all, if you're that badly hurt).

Some of you may say that it's adding too much of a 'Tom Clancy' realism to an arcade-style game. Well its the overly arcade elements of BF that are starting to ruin the game for a lot of people. I'd hate to see that happen here.

Most players would just committ suicide than play with a lamed player. I think that if they have the option to surrender it doesnt count against their amount of solidiers. You still would have to spawn back. As far as laming someone, just make it so they cant run or rather start to dim their eyesight and people will get the picture, ironic.
