ZinC°hda Posted July 3, 2004 Posted July 3, 2004 Just watched a video for the 100th time and noticed that theres no reticules on guns. Anyone else spotted that ? Personally I think not having reticules will make the game more fun as it will add an extra element of skill to firing. Views please ? www.HiredDigitalAssassins.com
yaebginn Posted July 4, 2004 Posted July 4, 2004 you can probably take them off or put them on, like in a few other games.
Luke'sMaster Posted July 4, 2004 Posted July 4, 2004 I agree and also think that they just havent added them yet and I could see why. I would like to put on the aiming reticules as a last finishing touch rather than make them at the start before all the levels are even made (and maybe even some of the units) if I was a Game Director.

TK-8252 Posted July 4, 2004 Posted July 4, 2004 I agree with HDA_POSTAL. Real soldiers don't have crosshairs marking where they'll shoot. It's fun to challenge yourself and just turn off the crosshair.
CortoCG Posted July 4, 2004 Posted July 4, 2004 Real soldiers don't play silly video games, they do the real thing. Most probably they took the crosshair out for the trailer.
Master William Posted July 4, 2004 Posted July 4, 2004 For crying out loud, this is a game. Stop taking the 'Play the movies' message too damn seriously. What, you want to install something into the computer that lets us feel the cold of Hoth through the computer? Hey wait, soldiers weren't drinking Coke with simple clothes in front of a computer when fighting. In fact, they were not even sitting! :atat: >

Schetter Posted July 4, 2004 Posted July 4, 2004 A FPS game without a target reticle would be absolutely retarded. Please think before you speak. How the hell would you AIM?!?! And yes, soldiers have targeting reticles - its called the gun sights. Some equally brainy types decided to try and organize a '3rd person view only' day using a bf1942 mod in the bf1942 community. Guess how it went: a.) wildly successful b.) flopped like a fish Ok, done being caddy now. No FPS game has ever not had a target reticle. Why would you not?

yaebginn Posted July 4, 2004 Posted July 4, 2004 huh? goldeneye didnt have target recticles on. you had to hold a button and couldnt move while holding it. you had to have ad skillz. In third person mode, its impossible not to have aiming recticles. And soldiers play video games. Not during war, but they are just like you and me. They want to meet celebrities and wathc movies. Their job just brings more honor than the average job. and real soldiers dont use blasters either. Thsi game isnt exactly realistic.
Master William Posted July 4, 2004 Posted July 4, 2004 Yeah, Perfect Dark is like Goldeneye (same developers) but better in my opinion, and when I shoot I always do it without the aim because that's the most effective way to kill your enemy. I can live without a crosshair, but I'd like one... Hey, I got a new idea: connect wires to our nerves and have us scream in pain each time we die, especially when we get shot in the head.
CortoCG Posted July 4, 2004 Posted July 4, 2004 The best aiming system I ever tried on a game is the one used on Operation Flashpoint. My goodness, what a game! I love it. Of course, a Star Wars based game using the same principles would be a complete failure.
lukeiamyourdad Posted July 4, 2004 Posted July 4, 2004 Oh just so you know, the crosshair is always in the middle of the screen in most FPS(well all that I've played). So you know, if there's no crosshair, you can look at the middle of the screen. That's where you have to fire
Master William Posted July 4, 2004 Posted July 4, 2004 or put a small piece of paper exactly in the middle (or where you see it is appropiate) it works, but it is the way of the cavemen
sup3rsnail Posted July 4, 2004 Posted July 4, 2004 No crosshairs because they were making a professional trailer for the game. And if there aren't crosshairs, there better be ironsights.
CortoCG Posted July 4, 2004 Posted July 4, 2004 yes, because cavemen often ran into that problem. Booga! And if there aren't crosshairs, there better be ironsights. Huh?!?!?!
yaebginn Posted July 4, 2004 Posted July 4, 2004 If needed, I could proabaly do without them. But it'd be really hard, since I'm using third person. I hope the autoaim isnt too good, cause then snipers would be out of luck.
CortoCG Posted July 4, 2004 Posted July 4, 2004 Autoaim sucks, are there still games featuring something like that? I think the last game I played with such a thing was Dark Forces, only because you couldn't aim good with the keys only.
yaebginn Posted July 4, 2004 Posted July 4, 2004 its sometimes good, but its more fun to play w/o it. like in goldeneye.
lukeiamyourdad Posted July 4, 2004 Posted July 4, 2004 Ut2k4 has a aim helper of some sort. Most if not all console shooters use autoaim. Expect to see autoaim on consoles.
Sabretooth Posted July 5, 2004 Posted July 5, 2004 It's been done. They must have taken it out for the trailer, or they must have turned it off. Maybe they must removed it, so you can aim through ironsights like real soldiers. Maybe Droids, Clones and Stormtroopers might be having internal crosshairs in their visors
yaebginn Posted July 5, 2004 Posted July 5, 2004 but what about for third person? no ironsights there.
