The M60 problem: which class is destined for hardcore nerf antilove?

The title of this post refers to the game Battlefield: Vietnam, where until the first patch came there was one class that absolutely ruled the battlefield: the M60/LAW combo. You got an antivehicle launcher coupled with the best gun in the game, which was more accurate than the sniper rifle and could fire its 100 round clip in about 10 seconds. The Vietcong (other team) was always hopelessly outnumbered 2:1 or more, and 80% of the U.S. would use the M60.

A lot of people saw this coming on the forums beforehand, because when the devs played the game they made a conscious effort to pick all classes...NOT what the general population does. The devs finally wised up and after two months did some hardcore ownage on the combo and the m60.

What classes do you think are shaping up for an unpleasant encounter w/the nerf stick about a month down the road after the devs discover about 90% of the players are using them? Here are my picks:

1) Droideka: This all depends on how effective the shield is. If it stops all blaster fire when on, droid maps will have 2 droidekas for every one clone (think back to BF1942: what % of your kills happened on people moving horizontally from you? Probably close to zero, so the shields being down when droidekas move doesn't really help).

2) Super Battle Droid: Shaping up to be WAY overpowered, IF their rockets do any appreciable damage to vehicles. If they do, there is no point to taking the antiarmor droid and you will be a one man rambo squad.

3) Any of the rocket troopers: Why pick the regular assault if you can pick this guy? Unless their guns are weaker than the standard assault trooper, there would be no point to the standard trooper. Imagine a whole team of rocket troopers: how in the hell would you ever be able to hit them?

What are your thoughts on the most unbalanced, emergency balance patch causing classes?

SBD- I dont believe the rockets will help against vehicles. They will most likely just be very effective against troops.

Rocket Troops- Their blaster is a pistol, weaker and shorter range than the trooper's rifle. and I believe they're slower when they have the rocket out.

Droideka- The shields may weaken after alot of blaster shots, but I dont know. The shields can be taken out by rockets or grenads, though. and their moving is slow when they have thier weapons out, and they are helpless when they are going fast.

yeah, those are pretty much the most powerful ones... but maybe droideka's are really weak without their shields... and the SBD's rocket only does splash, and not very much dmg against vehicles, making it only handy agaisnt groups of enemies... only it overrules the normel BD a bit... Rocket troopers.. they're not overpowered, i think. They're slow and unprotected.

They said on both lucasarts.com and ign.com that the SBD will have two kinds of wrist-fired rockets, dumb fire and concussion. The dumb fire are good vs infantry, while the con are decent vs vehicles. Now why in the world would they put main rocket trooper for the droids if they did'nt need it? That means the SBD's concussion rockets will not be spectacular vs vehicles, but only to help out in taking them out. :jawa :jawa

You know, it sucks cause now the M60 in BF vietnam doesn't resemble relatively any of the accuracy of a real M60 like it should. It is fairly accurate and the kickback is not as bad as the patch made it. I agree that too many people used it but then they patched the game so hard that now no one uses it and then they went one worse and replaced it with another gun. Sad.

On the droideka, i think they've pointed out that it can only fire while stationary and moves at a slow speed while in firing mode, therefore a few well placed shots or a rocket could probably take it down.

1) The Imperial Dark Trooper is basically all the Imperials will use. It has a jetpack, plus it looks cool. Automatic n00b-catcher.

2) The Droideka. Who would want to be a weak Battle Droid when you can be one of the few things in the galaxy Jedi fear most?

3) All scout classes. Lots and lots of annoyance from "disguised" snipers. Seems like snipers are all the people want to be.

4) All heavy weapons classes. People always go for the missile launcher. It takes less skill and blows stuff up.

5) If some idiot makes a Jedi mod, a Jedi class. Oh boy... I'm not even going to start.

The normal Clone Trooper should be pretty good if the Rifle is upto the standards it was in the movies, it could destroy a Deka in one shot!

If its shields are down. :)

I'm sure not everyone will want to play a Jedi all of the time if somebody makes a mod. If I ever did a mod, I would pretty much make it an all Jedi mod, where you could not play the normal classes in it ( to stop it from being TO widely used. ). Perhaps a pre-Ruusan campaign for SP, leading up to the Battle of Ruusan... Jedi vs Sith. :)

In any case, it would keep the Jedi out of the normal game.

Yeah If I have to play against a whole team of 'Dekas that should be a interesting game. I hope they don't allow a whole team of one class. But I guess it could work out both ways. Every class has a weakness.

Indeed TK, for some reason, in EPII the Droidekas seem to have lost there shields  But based on the movies, Clones own Droidekas, but if theres shields involved, well, we'll see...

As I stated in an earlier thread, the clone rocket jetpacker will be the n00b's class of choice (simply because of the jetpack - COOL factor) and those that use it enough can get good enough at timing up shots to take out unwary soldiers or those less skilled in the art of evasion. The ability of a one-shot-kill with a large sweet spot (as opposed to a pinpoint with snipers) is enough of an advantage over other classes. The jetpack is too much.
