Astrotoy7
he he he Astro's area of speciality, apart from making love to beautiful women............ grrrrr ! firstly, this isnt a DVD right, you're saying its a CD, does this mean 1. A VCD, or SVCD 2. On a CD ROM, eg. like a music video that comes on an audio cd in the instance of both, the movie file can be found if you 'explore' the disc contents, if its a standard VCD, SVCD - its usually in a folder called MPGAV or similar. The file type in a video CD will always be an mpg1 on a cd rom, it can be anything, ive seen everything from swf. to quicktime movies. You really just have to have a look well ! the next step.....getting a small bit out this can be done a zillion ways.....but for your perhaps the easiest way is to use an encoding. The king of all encoding programs is TMPGEnc..... it can recognise most standard filetypes(even quicktime if you have the plug in) you select the movie you want, then just set it so it 'encodes' only a certain part of it, and let it rip. This program can output mpeg1, mpeg2(DVD) and even avi file formats lemme know if you wanna go this way and I can help if reqd and give linkys if necessary.... if you just wanna get get screencaps, eg for making an avatar, best to use windvd..... mtfbwya

Astrotoy7
Originally posted by RpTheHotrod It's one huge .avi file from a CD yeah, tmpenc will do nicely, not only that, but once it encodes it to mpg, the filesize will be much smaller. Im sure there are tools avaiolable that will let you do this and keep it as an avi but avi take up quite alot of space....... if you dont wanna mess with tmpenc, and keep it in avi use this avcutty ! very easy, freeware too step 1 : before you do anything, get the avi off the cd onto your HD ! alternately, if you feel game enough to try tmpgenc, here you go tmpgenc btw the most AMAZING site for all this kind of knowledge, guides and links is http://www.videohelp.com mtfbwya

Can be very simple to use(for a beginner) but all the expert options are in there too. Ive even noticed it in the credits of quite a few ps2 games, who must use it to encode their cutscenes mtfbwya
