coupes.
Basically, I want to know what is the difference between the RADEON 9800 XT 256MB AGP and the RADEON 9800 PRO 256MB AGP.The 9800 XT is $200 more thant the 9800 Pro, but it doesn't seem to me there's much of a difference between the two, but then again I'm no expert. Also could someone shed some light over the RADEON X800 PRO 256MB (AGP). It looks to me it offers better performances thant the 9800 XT, but it sells for $100 less. Samuel Dravis
A couple of reviews for the cards: X800 9800 Note that the X800XT is about twice as fast as the 9800XT.
Nerd_Annhilator
I thought it was more. Oh well, you could probably stick a 9800XT in your computer and say 'LOOK! I got a X800! (because they look exactly the same) ..and uh...yea--- *BLAM* *thud*
coupes.
the PRO uses DDR and the XT uses DDR2 Actually I think it's the other way around, 9800 PRO 256 uses DDR2 and 9800 XT uses DDR1. However, the XT's specs are slighlty higher, not enough to justify a $200 increase in the cost (AFAIK), or is it ? Note that the X800XT is about twice as fast as the 9800XT. Yet, the price is the same... How is that possible ? RADEON 9800 XT 256MB AGP RADEON X800 XT PLATINUM 256MB AGP

coupes.
Well, I guess I'll go with the R 9800 Pro 128 as there is no real use for a R 9800 Pro 256 and the R 9800 XT doesn't offer performances that would justify a $200 (or even $130 as far as I'm concerned) difference in the prize. Also I don't think any game is gonna have any real need for a R X800 XT for a while. I mean, the 9800 Pro should have no problem running the newest games for some time. Besides, I don't care all that much for graphics, I just want to be able to play the recent games and the ones that will come out for for a while. Anything is better than my current GeForce 2 anyways
manoman81
CoupeS, I really don't mean to hijack your thread, but I also need some help. Just need a few peoples opinions. I have had it with my motherboard. So, now I'm looking at attempting to find a new one. The one I have is only a 1 ghz. The next problem is that I do not have any DDR ram. Meaning that I will spend a small fortune just buying memory. On to the real question: Are the processor/MB combos worth getting, or should I go with buying them separately and (even though I know the answer to this one) should I stay with the memory I have or attempt to buy the DDR memory? manoman81
Yeah, if you look on http://www.pricewatch.com and look at the motherboard section, you can buy MBs and CPUs together.
Nerd_Annhilator
Oh oh, I misunderstood. I thought you meant that the CPU came built into the motherboard, and that doesn't make any sense.

Samuel Dravis
Generally, combo deals are not as good as what you would get with buying them seperately. It's just like buying a packaged Dell when you really should be buying the parts individually (as you can get them cheaper, and better components). I looked up the components of a rather high level compy (not the best, but definitely up there) a while back, and it came out to under $800 USD. In case you wanted to know, the absolute best parts were about $2000. These are probably not exactly the same now though, of course, but you get the idea. If you're within the US, you can look around on http://www.newegg.com and if you look for some good DDR memory, I'd suggest OCZ and/or Mushkin for the good pricing, if you're really tight, I suggest Crucial. Also for budget, I'd suggest AMD Athlon XP with nForce2 mother board platform. Originally posted by .:CoupeS:. While the Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB doesn't give much more performance except with higher resolutions (with AA and such on aswell), it also has higher lentacies with DDR2. But then again I doubt there are any overclockers here come to think of it. In the end, Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB is the best choice.

Trying to push it as hard as I can at the moment. Kind of worried though...Had to format my HD which means no antivirus and Norton IS....
