I do know that Doom3 went Gold like two weeks before release. I think its a marketing ploy to get people excited about its release. It does though give assurity that come Sept 21 BattleFront will be online kickin booty.

This has nothing to do with SWBattlefront, but as requested, here's a quote from the article I linked to: Richard Burns Rally goes gold for PC PC version of the rally racing simulation set to ship in Europe on September 3. UK-based SCi today announced that the PC version of Richard Burns Rally has gone gold. The rally simulation will ship to the UK, Germany, and France on September 3, with other European territories following shortly. The game includes rally courses from all over the world and a number of licensed vehicles, such as the Peugeot 206 and the Citroen Xsara T4. Other features, such as realistic spectators and dynamic weather, will make an appearance in the game. Xbox and PlayStation 2 versions were released in July. SCi has not made any plans to release Richard Burns Rally in North America.

Oh and about the article. if you don't know what going gold means for gaming than it can easily be mis construed as selling 100,000. Because even though it doesnt say anything about it selling 100,000 it also doesn't say anything about the gold master disc. But I stand corrected!
