Barcrest
The .LVL files appear to contain the vehicle and building models but not the character skin info. Take a look at this... I am not sure where the character models and skins are, anyone got an idea?

Barcrest
No if you look, there are IMP Snow troops on Nabo... Anyway i have found out how to remove vehicles from maps also now... I have removed the chicken walkers from the HOTH map. I am going to try and hack the file to see if i can do any of the following; Alter flight height Add more vehicles (Only ones in the map can be added, but maybe 4 AT-AT's and 4 AT-ST's on HOTH?) There isn't much you can hack really only change values etc, but i suppose you could make things weaker or tougher etc.. I'll let you know, sorry for the wrong forum i realised afterwards. richcz3
Barcrest what are you using to decompile the files? richcz3
Barcrest
You can't decompress them, they are not actually compressed. They are just all the files put into one file... At least from what i can make out.

rut-wa jodar
I`m guessing that he uses a Hex editor.

TK-8252
So would this be the first mod ever made for SWBF? Snowtroopers on Naboo?
Barcrest
Hmmm Well it seems the models are listed by the names you would expect. If you do a search using something like ultra edit for say ATAT or atst you will find the relevent sections. Now if you rename these to and invalid name they no longer appear on the map. However the map still loads and plays fine. What i have tried to do is copy what i think is a section of the code for the AT-AT and add it again after the 2 enteries that are there to add a third AT-AT so far without any luck. But i am still working on it. As for snowtroopers on naboo that was a really easy trick but still can be good fun. Just rename your hoth map to hot1.bak and then copy another map in the folder and call it hot1.lvl then you can have snow troopers in the dune sea. Also as a side note when i was editing the map i some how disabled the zoom function. I could no longer zoom in with any of the troops i selected. Odd that, it did make it a bit too hard then to play as the sniper EDIT: I have not looked at the re-enforcment points but looking at how the game works it might be possible. The only problem is searching out number values in a love of hex isn't as easy.
DodgeNeon
Seeing how you managed to take a peek inside the file, did Pandemic leave any of the units that where cut from the game (MTT for example)??? Sometimes game companys leave extra stuff in the game files, but were never used in the final release. Sorry for bumping this thread, but i'm curious to know. Barcrest
[ReadDataFile alliance.lvl empire.lvl SetUnitCount SetReinforcementCount AddUnitClass all_inf_snowtrooper all_inf_pilot all_inf_sapper all_inf_medic all_inf_spy AddBleedThreshold imp_inf_snowtrooper imp_inf_pilot imp_inf_gunner imp_inf_medic imp_inf_scout imp_inf_officer SetSpawnDelay hoth.lvl All that info is in the common.lvl file... See the SPY and OFFICER references... Also see the unit count and Reinforcement count. This looks like good news for a hack to get the extra characters back in and also increasing units. richcz3
I remember that BF:1942 had elemenst that didn't make it into the final game. There were listings and graphics for some items but for whatever reason they opted not to use them. One I remember was the B-17 bomb sight. They probably took out the officer and spy for game ballance reasons. Still it would be nice to know what their class was supposed to do. richcz3
