Just get either one, they are both great for most games. But i think the 6800 owns the X800 XT P.E in HL2, so if you decide to get it, buy the BFG 6800 Ultra OC, its the same price as the normal 6800 Ultra. It has a lifetime warrenty and only requires 380-watt instead of 480-watt power supply. However, 480 is still recommended.

I believe that the x800 series have an advantage in Half-Life 2 because Half Life is running OpenGL . I think I heard somewhere that the x800 cards should get a 20 frames per second boost over the 6800. Am I correct? Or am I incorrect? ;)

Edit : I mean Direct3d, not OpenGL. Sorry about that mistake.

I cant really remember, maybe it was the HL2 or the CS:S benchmark i cant remember. Btw, HL2 is running Direct3D not OpenGL. Doom 3 uses OpenGL thats why NVIDIA owns in D3, but in HL2 the 6800 and X800 are both very similar. Drop into the $200 - $250 range, the Radeon 9600 and 9800 is a clear winner.

I got it the wrong way round. But I do remember somewhere that the x800 performs better than the 6800. I think the x800 got around 120+ frames per second, while the 6800 got 90-100.

I think i remember now, they both perform differently at different video settings and res. But you still cant go wrong with either one of them.
