The Saxman
Hi, I recently ordered a new computer from HP. I chose an ATI Radeon video card because they don't have GeForce. Now after looking at the forums here a little, it sounds like ATI cards have problems playing the Jedi Knight games.....will I be able to play Academy and Outcast on my lovely new computer? My specific card is: 256MB DDR ATI Radeon X600 Pro Thanks, The Saxman
Mex
Your graphics card is ok, but could you post how powerful your processor is and how much memory is in your comp?
Amidala from Chop Shop
If you want to be absolutely sure you can play your favorite games, I'll be happy to trade your junky untested new card for a nice, reliable nvidia TNT2 card I have that I'm not using. Such a deal!
The Saxman
Pal: Processor is 3.2 gig Pentium 4 Ram is 1 gig DDR Amidala: Thanks for the offer but.......
Mex
Are you joking or something? Of course you'd be able to run it, what did you think you was playing, Doom III with max graphics?

My question wasn't about speed issues, it was about compatability issues. Sort of like trying to play Outcast on a Voodoo 3 card. It just doesn't work, not because it's not fast enough (just have a beefy processor, and lots of ram), but because the card translates differently. What I had heard was that ATI cards process some types of graphics strangly, so you can't play certain games without missing textures, tears, lag and I don't know what else. Amidala from Chop Shop
It's not just Jedi Knight games, it's KOTOR too. Browse through these forums, you'll see more posts about ATI cards than nvidia: http://forums.lucasarts.com/category.jspa?categoryID=3 Actually, it's not the cards, it's the drivers. Some people recommend using older-than-the-latest drivers. Just set resolution at 640 x 480 with low texture quality and you'll be fine. And my offer to trade for my nice, compatible TNT2 is still open

Damn you should have went to another store and have gotten a 6600GT or 6800GT, its the best card in the $200 - $300 range.
Lord Haine
I expect youd be able to run it just fine. Ive got a 9800Pro and it runs perfect. With less ram than you too. Well, have fun with your new PC. Shouldnt be a problem with compatibility

With less ram than you too. A 1.6 GHz CPU with a 9600XT is already good enough to play JA. and you dont even need such a high end card to play at the highest detail with 16x AF.
