Xavier2
As helpfull as Im sure this type of thread is to you Xavier2, its not too helpfull to others. This Forum is to help everyone make mods not just a few Random people. So I'm closing this thread and the other Random thread and the usefull information will be split into the appropriate threads.[/b] I agree with you in part. The community is to help all, but also the individual. My thread is to solve my problem. I should have the freedom to chose how i pose my questions without being censored as long as i do not offend anybody. If someone, is, understandable enough, to busy to answer to my question, because it was already answered, then...Don't answer it. Simple as that. I ask that in the future to help others, that when you make a new thread you give it a title that fits the TOPIC. "Random questions" is not a topic and is not helpfull to others. Agreed. I chosed a bad tittle. In the service of others i should chose a more self explanatory one. Im not saying you can't start new threads On the contrary I encourage you to, but it is better to keep them on a single topic so that others can benefit from it later on. I disagree. Creating new trheads help raise the subject, rather than relaunching old ones that sometimes refer to solutions that used old versions of the current tools. Besides i found with my specific problems that is impossible to separate my doubts/problems in specific topics. take the thread you locked. I was trying to get a script. The script didn't compile because of the way the scripts were set. 2 subjects, 1 problem. If i had tried to split the same subject in 2 threads, it would end up getting confusing or imcomplete responses, someone would have to keep track of both threads to understand my problem and offer an answer. And i don't see how it could be beneficial to anyone if splitted in two. If i had to overlook 5 threads to find diferent aspects of what i needed and i had an idea what to look for, imagine others. The fight-talk-fight sequence is in the modding tutorial thread you know this one. "Do you Want to mod SW-KotOR? Then Start here.Mod Tutorials!" Again i had a specific problem. It is not a fight-talk-fight sequence. If you read the discussion you found that it turned out to be something else. I know the search function is disabled But if you can not find what you want in the Stickies you can ask a moderator to do the search for you. Believe me I know this is incredibly inefficient but it is how it is right now Then failing that Create a new thread, but please keep it on topic. I don't like closing threads But when people start complaining I have no other choice. Even if i agreed with you in all themes above. I would have to complain about a thread you locked. In there, i was having answers to an invisible mask problem that are in no event related to any other thread i know of. These are just my thoughts concerning the subject. I would lto hear what the community has to say about it. If you think i was bothering and in violation of any rule. Please let me know and i will shut myself up. If not, post what do you think about the subject and perhaps we can find some more commom ground about what should or shouldn't be locked.
T7nowhere
It is moderator prerogative to decide if a thread needs to be locked. It’s a dirty job but someone has to do it occasionally. What I’m attempting to do is to make it clear about how this forum should function. I am an easy going person and will generally allow the rules to be bent. But in this case the message is to keep discussion open for all not just a single person. To be quite honest threads like the ones I closed send a message of selfishness. I'll tell you if I was new to this modding scene and saw that thread I would by pass it because of the complete disarray of it. I’m sure you know whats going on in there, But some of those questions are unnecessary. They have been asked many times before and most of them are either in My Mod tutorials thread or in Darth333 Noobie guide. We did not spend hours of our time just so you could be LAZY. I have spent numerous hours building up my own knowledge base Taking time away from others things I could be doing or want to be doing. The purpose of learning is to do just that LEARN, even if it takes hours to do so. To quote Yoda  “the quick and easy path leads to the Darkside" IF everyone started making threads like that this Forum would become empty very quick. This type of thread asking what the community thinks about locking threads is an act of complete disrespect not to just to me but all moderators on Lucas Forums. We give our time selflessly so that others won't have to. Now you force me to yet another thread.
Darth333
T7 explained clearly the reason why your thread has been closed.I think there are still things you don't understand. I'll try to re-explain. When you say: I agree with you in part. The community is to help all, but also the individual. My thread is to solve my problem. I should have the freedom to chose how i pose my questions without being censored as long as i do not offend anybody.[/b] Why not help both at the same time? These are questions that are often asked so why not make a useful thread with a good title like "how to I make another NPC attack?" Like this it serves the author of the thread and all the others who may have the same question. The problem is that it is always the same individuals answering the questions. Don't take me wrong, I like to help and others like tk102, t7, svösh, Redhawke, ChaiNZ, Kaspian, etc like it too I am sure. In fact, I answer all the questions I can in priority before doing my own mods. However, we cannot answer the same questions one by one for each individual over and over. Imagine if everyone would only have a sort of WIP thread and ask all their questions in their thread without looking at the other's threads. You would have a group of people doing mods and another just to answer questions. Well it is not how it works: Holowan is about sharing: you take and you give. Otherwise, modding would be accessible only to a very few, which is not what we want. We want this place to be opened to everyone, experience or not, talent or not. We don't want people to be afraid to ask their questions but we ask them to do it in a way so others can get something from it too. It is not much to ask an author to keep a list, in notepad of the addresses of the threads where he posts questions if he cannot remember where. There are stickies too that do the job. Besides i found with my specific problems that is impossible to separate my doubts/problems in specific topics. take the thread you locked. I was trying to get a script. The script didn't compile because of the way the scripts were set. 2 subjects, 1 problem. Create new threads, I have no problems with that and you are most welcomed to post your questions but 1 topic = 1 thread. And about the topics that were joined in a single thread (before I split the thread in three parts) I'll list: 1. twilek color discussion 2. Whats the script for Killing the npc (owner) in a certain dialog? / What is the script to make this particular npc henchman to attack you after you killed their boss? 3. Dialogue related questions: What is the animation used for Force Persuade (that waving hand) during dialog? I am using DLDEditor /Is there a standard script in game that fires a dialog only if the speaker is of a certain race or any other .utc field? /If i want to fire a dialog only if a party member is along, what is the correct script. k_con_partymembernpm or k_con_partymemberpm? 4. Teleportation: I want to make a certain dialog branch to send PC and party members to a new area. How is the code? 5. Basic script compiler trouble shooting (not talking about a specific script not compiling but the use of the compiler in general and path questions) 6. Sound: Which sound formats Kotor suports for voice in dialog?/Can i place this voice file in Override or it must be packed in the mod? 7. Mask not showing All those could have been separate topics and they don't overlap with each other in any way and it would be helpful to other people. These are questions that are often asked. And again, don't take this wrong, we are not trying to piss you off or anything, we are just trying to make this place useful for everyone, including the author of a thread. I'd also like to remind you that before the threads got locked, you have been asked by two members (tk102 and Redhawke) to make separate threads. I also asked you to do this and you kept ignoring those demands. Also when a moderator closes a thread, if you disagree, do not start a public discussion. Use the PM or e-mail system if you want to discuss it: we look at all the PMs we get from members that being said, you are still most welcomed to post your questions on the boards and we encourage you to do so but please use the rule I mentionned above: 1 topic = 1 thread and check the existing stickies. edited to remove typos and repeated sentences.
