Oddball_E8
well... i have made lots of soundmods for different games before (mainly WWII ones) so i thought id have a go at the KotOR sounds... but i didnt really like the mod i made... however... i was wondering if there is an interest out there? mainly its an attempt to make the blastersounds... well... different... more fleshy perhaps... i kinda had the idea that since this was way in the past the blasters should sound a bit different... what i did was mix the sounds of the blasters (from Shem's classic blaster sounds) with some of the "real" weapon sounds i had on my computer... if there is an interest i will of course have to ask for Shems permission to release the mod. ChAiNz.2da
I think anyone would be interested in something different I'll be the first to admit when I first saw "sound mods" way back I was 'hesitant', but after sampling Shem's work, it definitely gives a better, broader & more rich of a flavor to the game. Especially to those of us that's played this game more times than they wish to mention... hehe You've definitely sparked an interest, so I vote 'yes'... As you said however, ask Shem first before you release it publicly.. Good luck and hope to see it available soon
Oddball_E8
aaah... but since these are a mix (litteraly) between shems sounds and "real" weapon sounds they are QUITE different from shems... maby someone (maby even shem) would like to test them? judge if they are release-worthy? Release worthy would be hard to consider since everything is really a matter of personal tastes... maybe a 'focus group' rather than relying on one person's opinion. But the true judge would be yourself. As with any modder here, I could safely say that most of us wouldn't release something they themselves wouldn't want to play (I hope)...so if you like them, chances are there's "more out there" that would as well... I only mention Shem since you said it incorporated his work, which is common practice here to ask permission of the other modder(s) elements that were used. It's a matter of mutual respect and consideration to recognize other's hard work Your mod sounds very interesting however... I would pursue it. If all else fails, you seem to me to be a very competent audio editor. Perhaps create your own unique sounds using your mix with the standard in-game's sounds. This of course assuming Shem wasn't interested...but in my experience most modders here are more than willing to help out (within reason) given the proper credit for their part OK, I swear one of these days I'm going to start my own "pep talk" club . Though I am serious in what I say...I sound like a freakin' cheerleader sometimes
stingerhs
you know, in a modding community where most everyone wants to see something new, its quite refreshing to actually get some audio in the mix. having done some minor work with audio in the past (helping a local band come up with some mixes. with professional help, of course. ), i realize that a lot of work can go into audio to make it sound just right. its a great idea, and i'm behind you all the way complete with a brand new sound card on the way. Darth Smaug
how do you plan to make sound mods???
Oddball_E8
well making a soundmod is a piece of cake actually... you just add a new sound instead of the old one but seriously... im getting rusty... most of my soundmods of late have been made up of the same old WWII sounds i usually use, but re-released for new games (WWII ones of course) so i might actually get my a** in gear and start making something fresh... but ill have to get my hands on a good audio editing program before that happens... maby ill wait until after KotOR II has been released... but ill go ahead and make this mod "non-shem compatible" by using the original blaster sounds just in case shem dont want me to release the mod (or someone, for some unknown reason, just doesnt like shems sounds)
Oddball_E8
well... i made a new batch of sounds using the original sounds instead... and completely new "real weapon" sounds... and im quite pleased with them actually... i even use them myself... im gonna release them soon, but i want to change the impact sounds of blasters too... add a little (very little) explosion sound... since they do explode on impact... blasts that is...
