toms
There is a risk with any surgery, no matter how minor. However there is no extra risk associated with Lasik. Unless something long term shows up, but there have been no signs of it so far. I hated wearing glasses... (a) i found they made me feel almost claustophobic, being right infront of my face all the time. (b) i felt they made me look geeky (my fault i know) © they were annoying whenever you had to do anything active (ball sports, paintball, etc..) I found my hand eye coordination improved a lot when i got contacts. I didn't mind my contacts, but you could only wear them for 8 hours a day, and unforseen night out kept popping up just after you had worn them for 7 hours. I also hated putting them in in the morning when i was half asleep... and they didn't work well with staring at a screen for hours and not blinking. So i ended up wearing glasses or nothing during the day, and only using contacts for nights out. (when smoke sometimes made them dry) This probably wasn't good for my eyes, and having glasses on all day didn't boost my self confidence. So, although eye surgery wasn't "life changing" it definately made my life more convienient and made me a tiny bit less self-concious...
Rogue15
Yeah go for soft daily disposable contacts. I need to get a 6 month supply of them sometime this month....glasses are so annoying after wearing contacts, you have much more peripheral vision with contacts than with glasses. (which i don't understand why they don't let u wear contacts at basic training )
Ratmjedi
Well if you were them during basic you have an excuse and it puts you in a disadvantage compared to the rest of your recruits. You get dust or something in them and your going to be spending more time worrying about them and trying to get them to feel just right and not hurt while your D.I. is going to be yelling down your throat. Glasses are low maintence for the 2-3 month period. I personally wear contacts. I've been wearing the yearly ones for a long time now. The pair that I have now I've had over than a year and they still work good. I don't know if it's good for my eyes but it's the only choice that I have right now. I had glassed before but I only have them for about a year before I made the switch to contacts and I dont have glassed anymore since I **cked them up. Personally I want to get Lasik done to my eyes. Contacts aren't really that big of hassle to me but I just hate worrying about taking them out and putting them in solution or staying out real late. I wear my contacts way longer than 8 hours. Usually from like 3:55 AM till like 10 PM sometimes. I just want the simplicity of not worrying about my eyes. I'd get it done if I had the money right now and if the healing process didn't take that long. Like the eye drops and the glasses for when you sleep is what I'm talking about. But about the risk of getting your eyes messed up I think it's just like any other normal risk that is worth taking.
