[TSL] Blurry and Pixelated Robes Error

I have a problem with the texture quality of any custom robes I install in TSL. As seen in the screenshot below and compared to the skin itself you can tell there is an immense difference. I would like to have my robes customized but this error of unknown origin is driving me nuts.

this is most likely a stupid question from someone (me) trying to make himself sound like he knows what hes talking about but here goes:

1) Does your computer meet the required specs?

2) What graphic options have you choosen for TSL?

3) ummm..... lost for ideas for the moment :p

I sooo know the answer to this!

But I can't remember it!!!

Someone else had the exact same problem, only with reskinned/modded robes and armor.

I remember I said something like, "Could be saved as 24bit." and someone smarter said... (This is the part where someone smarter should post.)

Can't... think... Neurons not... firing... There's...something on the... Wing... Some... Thing...

Seriously,

I think it has to do with either your resolution or your graphics setting.

i keep trying to tinker with all my settings but every single texture that i try to replace goes screwy...but the thing is all the textures from the actual game are perfect, it's only the ones in my override folder that get all pixelated and junk...

i have antialiasing at 2 (but i checked that isnt the problem)

i have the other wierd graphics setting at 16 (also not the problem)

i have V-sync off (not the problem either)

i have soft shadows ON

i have 1280 X watever at 75 watsits for my resolution

and i have NO idea wat the problem is...help

When I install reskins of faces, robes or anything else the textures look odd. Like they are too bright or something.

and it is like that for every mod.

Do you have your games display texture settings set to High? If not, your system is downsampling the texture to 256 colors, the 'splotchy' skin is usually a sign of lower sampled skins.

It could be the skin that was used for the mod as well. If it was edited from a lower sample texture (and your settings are set to High)... then your system is 'stretching' the 256 color sample to fill in millions+ color per pixle...

I don't think that is the problem, I think that you are running on and ATI video card, because the same thing happens to me and other ATI users, I'm still waiting for a patch... lol, I've tried just about everything and I can't get it to work I think it is the ATI card sadly...

Actually i solved the problem (drazin gave me the idea actually). Instead of setting it to the higher 32-bit when i saved i used 24- bit instead! I can't use alpha channels anymore but ive modified my skins so that isn't much of a problem.

at 32-bit you should still be able to use alpha channels? When you converted did it delete the channel? If so, you can easily re-add it and use the 'extra' techniques that alpha channels allow... :)

you misunderstand me, i saved it as 24-bit b/c it didnt work when it was 32-bit, when i get home ima experiment with setting it to 256 color mode, i think that will work just as well

Ahh, I see.. sorry 'bout that :)

Though I'm interested to see if 256 colors will work well enough. I'm not sure if it too would cause the blurry/pixelated look. Downsampling might be just as bad...

BUT, if it does work.. sweetness! Let us know how it goes :)

Weird... I don't have this issue and I use a ATI Radeon 9600XT.

I had this problem before, and I found it to be quite simple. Who ever is making this mod must have used the same robes that he or she used to create a previous mod. What I came across was that in KOTOR II, the game designers did something intresting to the mod textures.

Example:

Lets say, I created a nice recolor of a mod, and I used the same texture file, and recolored it for another mod. What happens is that when I replace the color, the texture's gamma setting get compromised. As a consequence, you get pixelation and bad golor gradiations. Also, it may be due to the fact that we all are making texture file on verious graphic cards. A few days sgo, I installed a 246MB graphics card, which completely changed my display settings. Unlike the 64MB cards, I can now see color ranges that go beyond the 64's limitations. Therefore, when I make mods, I have to make sure that I am not seeing color ranges that go beyond everyone elses graphic capabilities. This also happens to some websites!
