<FullName> description function

Hey everyone!

Is it just on my end, but does the <FullName> function seem to not work with the descriptions when you're in the Workbench dialogues?

My descriptions are fine when you read them in the Inventory screens (wheras <FullName> is replaced with the PC's name).. but for some reason, whenever I go into the Workbench to upgrade and such.. I see <FullName> in my descriptions instead of my PC's name... odd....

Anyone else having this oddity? It's rather annoying that it works everywhere except the Workbench (where more than likely the description is actually going to get read)...

I was wanting to use this function for a particular description in the USM, but this quirk is making me think twice about it (unless the majority here doesn't mind)...

Still though, it has to be possible, in TSL your PC's crystal seems to work (or the function at least carries over) :fist:

I don't know if it's just you, but it works just fine in my game for my custom robes at least. Both in inventory, workbench/breakdown, workbench/create and workbench/upgrade.

Hmmm... odd...

Mine works fine too, but only for the Title... in the actual description.. the <FullName> appears

Disciple, Inventory

Disciple, Workbench

Disciple, Upgrade

RedHawke Exile Item, Upgrade

RedHawke Exile Item, Workbench

I tested with one of RedHawke's Exile Items as well, but from the screenies you can see the Title works, but in the description field is where it's happening.. everything works however in the INventory screen...

I R confused :nut: hehehe....

p.s. Nevermind the Disciple portrait, that was for previous screenshots.. god forbid I actually used the Disciple's appearance for my character hehehe...

I have noticed this as well ChAiNz, but since it only does it in the descriptions part of the upgrade screen, I figured it has to do with a display bug in the Workbench function... a minor thing if you ask me... you should probably just ignore it! ;)

gadz, if I have to re-do these uti's I'm gonna weep... hehehe

still, I wonder why it works for the inventory, just not the workbench... plus, I've never made any alterations to RH's item's uti's... just mine...

I can understand the glitch theory, TSL has enough of those... just seems to me this would be a "global glitch" rather than isolated hehe... ahh well.. I may have to come up with an alternate description anyways, so if I have to re-do the uti's in that case, I'll test your theory J_Slash

then again,... I like your idea RedHawke ;) hehehe...

Actually ChAiNz, here's a theory about why it does this... Due to the way items seem to be handled in TSL it is highly probable that when you start to upgrade an item in the WB that the game displays the raw data contained within the item uti file, hence the <FullName> tag appears in the description text so as to save the description properly upon hitting assemble... and saving the upgraded uti to your save game.

Well that's my hair-brained 4 in the morning 'my eyes are burning from lack of sleep' theory anyway... and I'm sticking to it! :p

Good enough for me! :thumbsup::lol:

@J_Slash

I feel your pain man, sleep's a good thing.. but work rubs (for me in about 20 minutes at least)... *sob* hehehe...

Thanks everyone for the input! I'll probably keep them the way it is now then (mainly because I'm lazy and I like the description) :p

Just use that ole grey matter and imagination ....

[Force Persuade] You do not see <FullName>, you do see your Character's name... [/Force Persuade] ;)

Here's a newbish question. But are you saying that the string <FullName> gets replaced by the PC's name when it appears in the text of an item's uti file, for example?

I hadn't seen that before. But then again, I wasn't looking... :)

yup! :D

In my screenshots (the inventory ones) anywhere you see Ta'ahn Kaast it's actually <FullName> in my .uti...

Also, one plus side to TSL's descriptions... I noticed it no longer puts that blank square in the text whenever you have a carriage return (enter)... kudos to them for that little measure ;)

Yeah, that is a nice change. It certainly helps things be a bit more readable...

Problems again huh ChAiNz? Hope you get it fixed. Hmm so if you type in <FullName> in a uti file it shows your characters name? Huh learn something new everyday... I'll have to try this and maybe I can figure it out or help in someway shape or form. But I suppose you could just replace the name with "The Exile" instead of the tag. It gets somewhat bland and boring but oh well. Really though when I go to upgrade any item I just do it for upgrades and don't pay attention to the description except when it is at the inventory screen. I really wouldn't worry about it. If someone gets annoyed by it at all then they can edit the uti anyways.

Oh now that's sweet! Thanks Xcom!

I really like the gender related entries (his/hers, he/she, him/her, Master/Mistress) really some nice little extras that could be added to dialogues (pretty sure you wouldn't have to worry about the 'quirk' in those) ...

especially if you're going for that "3rd person" perspective where the person you're speaking to doesn't realize you're the Exile...

hmmmm... some kewl possibilities indeed ;)

Thanks for the heads up! :D

p.s. I noticed there's a string called "PlayerName"... I wonder if that might be something to check out?...
