Lynk Former Posted April 23, 2005 Share Posted April 23, 2005 Internally, yeah, and his original dull metal covers were probably pressed from scrap metal, but in Revenge of the Sith he's all plated in shiny gold plates which are brand spankin new. But of course, Threepio is a very old protocol droid and through his years he's seen a lot of action so that new and final gold plating he recieves goes through a lot of damage. He probably lost the plate for his right leg somehow and was just given a regular replacement cause regular protocol droids are silver. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Theyre a composite metal alloy underneath and are plated various colours to suit taste in ANH there is another paler gold protocl droid. Is ESB and TPM there is a silver protocol droid.. Also in ESB 4LOM(one of the bounty hunters in ESB) is a black protcol droid... I wont even bother to go into the different colours EU protcol droids are as for threepios shin, Im not entirely sure why, because I havent seen ROTS yet, Im not sure if he is entirely gold in it.... It probably has been covered in the clone wars EU(it was only *shown* in the cartoon series) but I havent read much clone wars era material yet... Lynk Former Posted April 23, 2005 Share Posted April 23, 2005 The Silver ones are the generic droids, Threepio being a main character obviously has to stand apart from the generic modles. 4LOM was a bounty hunter and wasn't your regular droid. I think in terms of the movies you'd have to agree that they were aiming to show that there were more protocol droids LIKE threepio but wanted you to be able to tell the difference so they made all the others a generic silver colour. In Clone Wars II, Threepio is entirely gold and shiny, when I said brand spankin new, I meant it. Also you should know that the animators of Clone Wars II had to work a lot more closely with the happenings of ROTS because at the end of episode 25 of clone wars is the START of ROTS. edit: btw, where is that other gold plated protocol droid you were talkin about?
