Jeff
I have done some vert editing to a soon-to-be new PC head, and now need to export him out of Gmax. Unfortunately, I can't say I know how to do this. And I even used the handy search function, but nothing useful came up. Can somebody tell me how to get a .gmax file into .mdl format? Det. Bart Lasiter
I actually just figured this out today for lightsabers. For instance, with a lightsaber, detach the original from it's parent, then attach the new model to the old model's parent. Then in the instance of a lightsaber, the thing you need to select is the square around the hilt. Then a parameter box is shown under the modifiers tab that should have some export buttons on it. Click the button for exporting the geoms only, then use the replacer in mdlOps to compile the model to a binary .mdl So just click old model parts until that parameter thing shows, then it's fairly easy. Jeff
The only buttons I can press are "Add bone" and "Remove bone." Oh, and "Edit Envelopes." Everything else under parameters is greyed out. I don't think one of the buttons I listed is the right one. Am I missing something, or not in the right place?
Achilles
...in other words, take a look at T7nowhere's saber modelling tutorial. It's not 100% the same but 99% has always been good enough for me

Thats the skin mesh selected, you need to click off space then click the blue wire frame box known as the aurora base. once that is selected you will get the export options just as jmac7142 said. export mesh only and then use taina's replacer to replace the vert and or mapping coords( btw good luck with this step, a little tip follow the readme instruction exactly or it won't work)

Thanks for the help.

Look at this screenshot, the numbered arrows are... 1) Select the AuroraBase 2) Click on the Modify tab 3) Type in path of the exported file. Make sure you don't overwrite the ascii file you imported before. 4) Click Export Geom Only Then follow the instructions in the Replacer readme carefully. The user interface is a bit unintuitive so it's easy to miss a step if you aren't careful. If you get an External Exception error after having selected the ASCII models, just try again (without restarting the replacer) until it gives up and it works Uncheck all boxes in the "Vertex coordinates for" list except the ones you have been moving vertexes for. Check the named in gmax if you don't remember.
