Jmaster3265 Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 I am confused, what is this talk about how you can mod EaW? I never heard of such a thing or know the definition...i never heard of this to be in any other games ethier except this one. Can someone please explain?
Darth Andrew Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 Are you asking for the definition of a 'mod?' If you are, a mod is short for modification. It is when some people modify a game to include new units, new sides, new weapons, etc. Any game (on the PC anyway) can be modded. And don't feel alone on not knowing what one is; I never knew what a mod was until about two years ago.
popcorn2008 Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 Many games have 'mods', they are usually fan made modifications to games that like darth andrew said add new features to the game. Many games for the PC have mods created for them, you just have to look online to find them.
Jmaster3265 Posted September 20, 2005 Author Posted September 20, 2005 The defenition meaning whats does modding do? whats does it mean not what mod stands for..
Bs|NagaSadow Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 It is when some people modify a game to include new units, new sides, new weapons, etc. Umm read next time ?

Bs|NagaSadow Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 um i was answering a persons question.... Read over my quote... It was telling you to read over andrews post which explained what a mod did... Changes and adds new units and adds heros etc...
Jan Gaarni Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 Like many have said already, a Mod is a modification (hence the shorted word Mod). What it does is, people who have the knowledge (I'm not one of them ) - usually not developers themselfs - modify games to either include more units, new features, or completly change the game using the games engine. Example of using a games engine and create a whole new game so to speak (a mod), is Day of Defeat for Half-Life. Another is Counter Strike also built on the Half-Life engine. Warlords is a mod for HomeWorld 2. It replaces all the ships in the game and adds in Star Destroyers, corellian cruisers, corvettes, frigates, aswell as changing sounds and adding propper laser bolts, making it look and feel like you're playing a Star Wars game. I have no propper examples for mods that only adds new features and/or units (none that come to mind ), but Total Annihilation has some atleast. As with all mods (as far as I know) it requires the original game it was built on installed on your computer in order to play them (or even to install them for that matter ).
Zehoan Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 i thogut it was short for moddeling like....making models for the game

Jan Gaarni Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 Alright, I think this thread has served it's purpose long enough. The question has been answered, insults have been exchanged, and a general warning have been given. I trust I don't need to elaborate what the warning is about.
