The Dark Apprentice: Gold - Released!

jsut unzip it in a location other than you override folder and read the readme for instructions of what to put where.

Correct. If you read the instructions from one of the 3 "DAP - GOLD" files (.doc, .rtm, and .pdf), you'll see, among other things, that you need to copy the files from the zip's Override folder to your KotOR2 Override folder as well as copying your choices of textures from the sub-folders of the "You Choose" folders to the KotOR2 Override folder too.

And also, I found that you have a character named wrong. Who you call 4-Lom or something like that is actually named Zuckuss. See here.

Hey, that's right. I should have noticed that too. 4-LOM was a droid with an insect head who worked with Zuckuss and for Jabba the Hutt. He(?), Zuckuss, Bossk, Denga, IG-88B, and Boba Fett were the six bounty hunters hired by Vader in Episode V to track down the Millennium Falcon. It's not likely that any of them would have been around 4,000 or so years before then for KotOR2. Oh well.

Yes! I intentionally labled Zuckuss by the name 4-Lom. It is a tribute to the 1988 action figure packaging of Zuckuss, which Lucas accidently named him 4-Lom. I thought it would be unique to continue the tradition.

Sorry, I have not had internet connection for some time... I am back now! :)

You know what is funny!? I fixed this in the original, but I didn't save it... Damit! Thanks I will fix it during the weekend...

I don't see a change in the conversation with the Jedi Master as noted in the spoilers. She still talks like we are on Khonda, instead of the planet we are on. Have you had a chance to fix this and as it been uploaded?

Another critique - the Jedi Master calls the PC "young one" several times in their conversation. This makes no sense, you're a veteran general from the Mandalorian Wars, not a padawan. Even Mira says you're too old for her :) You should change this, she should call you just "General" or "General X" where "X" is your name. I found being called "young one" annoying and it took me out of the game.

A further critique - I don't like Bastilla's clothing. Too much skin, that's just not how she dresses. She's not a tease nor a sexpot. The look is just totally out of character. Maybe it's just me, but she needs less revealing clothing. This really takes me out of the game/mod.

Another problem - Sith Assassins don't carry lightsabers as far as I can remember. They kill Jedi, they AREN't Jedi.

The mod has an interesting overall story, it's just some of the details seem very wrong, and pull you out of the story.

I didn't create the mod, nor do I speak for MacLeodCorp, but I have a few comments in response.

Well, Nomi Sunrider would be older than the PC Exile. In fact you're probably about the same age as her daughter Vima. So, being called young one by Nomi makes sense. She just aged better than Kreia did.

I don't think it's any more revealing than some of what she could wear in KotOR 1.

Well, maybe they're not Sith Assassins. They could be Dark Jedi remnants of the Jedi/Sith Civil War.

No, even Kreia didn't call me "young one". I'm an experienced General - "young one" implies not merely "young" but "inexperienced". The General certainly isn't inexperienced. Also "young" is not a relative term - "younger" is. If she called me "younger" one that would make sense (but sound goofy), because the PC is "younger", but in absolute terms, the PC is not "young". As I mentioned even Mira thinks the PC is too "old" for her. Calling an experienced general "young one" is odd to my ears.

I don't think it's any more revealing than some of what she could wear in KotOR 1.

Sorry, that is clearly inaccurate - yes, she wasn't wearing much when captured in KOTOR 1, but after that she certainly wasn't wearing anything as revealing as what this mod has her wearing. It is definitely more revealing - her thighs are uncovered from the knees all the way up to her waist as if she's wearing a thong, and her belly is uncovered. So tell me exactly which outfit she would regularly wear in KOTOR 1 that was this revealing? You must have played a different game than I did.

Well, maybe they're not Sith Assassins. They could be Dark Jedi remnants of the Jedi/Sith Civil War.

A couple of points - one the NPC figure used is the Sith Assassin NPC, not a Dark Jedi NPC. The game calls them a "Bounty Hunter", but the PC in the dialogue calls them a Sith. Another comment:

The idea of Bastilla being hunted by Bounty Hunters is good, but why use a Sith NPC? Why not use a Bounty Hunter NPC - they do exist to be used in the game. And this leads to another question - why is Sunrider using Sith to hunt Bastilla? She's a Jedi, not a Sith! This makes no sense. Another criticism - why are Sith roaming openly and freely on Dantooine? You meet the first one at the spaceport and another in the Admin Building. Wouldn't people be a little bit suspicious and afraid if Sith were wandering around their settlement?

Like I said, the mod has some good ideas, the execution though is a bit strange IMO.

Seems to me that that's just Nomi's style - calling a past student who is younger than she is "young one". And, age, rank, and experience don't always go together either.

Well, the evil Bastila underwear was rather revealing in KotOR 1. I don't have KotOR 1 installed right now, otherwise I'd go back and look at the different outfits Bastila could wear (unmoded). As for this mod, I'm assuming you're refering to the clothes she's wearing in Khoonda (see image below). I just thought that part of her outfit was skin-tone (since it didn't really look like a gap in the clothing to me).

Actually, I don't think the figure used for the "Bounty Hunter"s is a Sith Assassin. Looks more to me like a Sith Marauder (who do carry lightsabers) - just without the mask.

Well, Nomi is supposed to have gone over to the dark side. Perhaps she figures that Bastila is too good for normal bounty hunters and that only another force user (like a Sith) would be able to defeat her.

And, the people on Dantooine don't seem very observant anyway. You can wander around with a full party of 3 Jedi / Sith wearing robes, and as long as you don't talk to a certain few people while having your lightsaber in your hand, with very few exceptions, nobody else seems to care or even notice.

Geez, come on, who's talking underwear? That's a ridiculous comparison - we're not comparing underwear, we're talking about what she's wearing on the street. You know what I am talking about and you pull this underwear thing out that has nothing to do with the conversation. That's lame.

And yes, I'm talking about the image you referenced above. "Skin tone" - well, maybe, but why make it skin tone if the intent is not to show skin? It looks like skin to me, it is skin.

Actually, I don't think the figure used for the "Bounty Hunter"s is a Sith Assassin. Looks more to me like a Sith Marauder (who do carry lightsabers) - just without the mask.

That is correct for the "Bounty Hunter" inside the Admin center - so you're at least half right :) But that's not the one I'm talking about. I'm talking about the first one you meet just outside the landing platform - on the way to the Admin building. That is clearly a Sith Assassin, not a light saber user - but they do have a light saber. Another inconsistency.

Hmm, then why doesn't she look darkside? Another inconsistency.

True - but the Sith wandering openly isn't THEIR style even if the people on Khoonda are stupid. They are creatures of subtrefuge and darkness. Sorry, it just doesn't fit.

Ooops, forgot to put a smiley there,. I wasn't seriously suggesting that she'd walk around in her underwear. (Although, I'm sure with some people... :snear: ) But, I guess it does show that she loses some of her sensibilities when going to the dark side. Maybe she's just pushing it further now :brow:.

And yes, I'm talking about the image you referenced above. "Skin tone" - well, maybe, but why make it skin tone if the intent is not to show skin? It looks like skin to me, it is skin.

Well, to me it just didn't look right to be skin. Looked more like it was actually part of the outfit. :indif:

Does it really matter what they wear? (Of course, they do say that clothes make the man. :)) Besides, the Elite Sith Assassins wear the same clothes but do carry lightsabers. But, if I were a bounty hunter, I think I'd want to be a little more inconspicuous,.

 I agree that it would make more sense for them to try to fit in more. Perhaps there are more, but some of them are too brash for their own good (or evil :)), and those are the only ones that you see.

Hmm, then why doesn't she look darkside? Another inconsistency.

Well, not everyone shows it as much. For example, take a look at Senator Palpatine. :p

I haven't played through all of the mod's you've added in this yet (Just Telos and Dant) but the first thing I noticed is the lack of speach options. KotOR is about options, having only a single thing to say 90% of the time seems kind of lame to me.

Also Nashadaa is not a place, Nar Shadaa is though.

HELLO! Dark Apprentice: Gold - Update!

For the past few weeks, and for the next two, I will be finishing up my finals. I have plans on releasing a mod fix. At the moment, my college studies have been overwhelming. I have so much to finish up before I get back into modding KotOR II. Please be assured that a fix is on it's way. There will also be a new KotOR Tool website created for Fred, so keep your eye open for that.

I have noted alot of changes that need to be made to 'The Dark Apprentice: Gold', and I have full intention on fixing this mod. I have not abandoned this project or any other. I just need time to finish up my homework, essays, and final exams for the semester....

Thank you for your patience,

MacLeodCorp

I don't mean to double post in my own thread, I usually delete one before I post another. However, I thought it would be intresting in responding to this one...

"Young One" Comments - Nomi is older than the Exile, and has a daughter that is about the same age as the Exile and Bastilla. It gives her a personality of being more experienced.

Bastila's Garments - I placed plenty of screens up. If you don't like them, that is your own opinion.

Sith 'Bounty Hunters' - My original idea was to have Bastila hunted by a small ban of Sith 'Bounty Hunters'. I thought it would be neat to create a small faction of Sith that work side jobs. Like rouge Jedi! If you read the discription on the 'Gray' Jedi Robes, which come allready built in game, they even say that some Jedi work independantly outside of the order. I thought that the Sith would also do this...

Maybe so, but you don't call your adult daughter "young one". Again, that implies inexperience, and the Exile is anything but inexperienced.

Sure, it's my opinion, whose else would it be? You asked for feedback, I gave, now you seem ticked at my response. Sorry, next time I won't bother.

I don't have a problem with what you state above. I have a problem with the fact that they are so obviously Sith. Seeing as Dantooine was bombed and by the Sith, they might not be too friendly towards Sith bounty hunters. Bounty hunters would dress like normal people and not seek to draw attention to themselves. That's my point - and remember, this is just my opinion :)

Actually, I am not upset/ticked at your resonse. All feedback is welcomed. What started off as feedback is looking more like a bash festival. Creative critiques are allways welcome... As long as it is creative crtitisim, ther will be no problems.

When I used the phrase, "That is your own opinion", I felt differently about Bastila's outfit. I wasn't ticked off at your response.

I thought you were looking for a reason why I used, "Young One". Therefore, I gave a reason.

It looks like you have more negative than possitive comments about this mod. I know I have to tweak some spelling, and make some labling adjustments. I have one question: Do you like anything about this mod?

Yeah, I like the story and that's what I found frustratin - you had a good story, but kept taking me out it with things that I thought didn't make sense or fit the universe as we know it.

This thing looks great, but I had a few questions about the installation.

First: I get the override folder stuff, and the choices sub-folder stuff, but the modules are confusing me. Am I right in thinking that i need to remove the 12 files listed in the readme (to another folder, somewhere else,) and simply replace them with the 4 mod filed provided? Or is there other, more complicated stuff I need to do to the mod files first?

Second: I see that you are planning to release an update soon. Being in college myself, I have infinite patience in this respect. However, I just would like to know if I should wait for the update before installing (ie, is this one of those delete everything and reinstall the new version kinda things?)

MacLeodCorp is Back!!!

As you know, I have been quite busy. Tonight, I will be going through all the feedback in this thread. It is time to fix: 'The Dark Apprentice: Gold'. While skimming through the thread, I do see some issues I need to take care of: Spelling, Dialogue Disconsitancies, etc...

I want to hear all the contructive criticism you have... I know some people have allready moved away from KotOR II, so I will be making some drastic changes to this mod. I hope to convince people to reinstall KotOR II, and have fun for one last time... To an extent, I have walked away from KotOR II; however, I am having a modding itch.

Lets get ready to moooooooooooooooooooooood!

When you get a moment, let me hear your feedback....

My main suggestion: More options in speach, have only 1 thing to say EVERY time (or 1 dark 1 light) is just kinda annoying, it would be more intersting to have 3-4 things to say, 1 dark, 1 light, 1 neutral and maybe one more sometimes, or whatever ... it just makes it feel like you're playing your character instead of watching a cutscene where you have ot his 1 all the time.

I haven't downloaded this mod yet, although I am going to. So, I don't really have much of anything to contribute to this discussion or any knowledge, but here is a few things I have to say.

Maybe so, but you don't call your adult daughter "young one".

People talk a lot differently in Star Wars, come on. They use expressions like that a lot. Besides, if Nomi is a lot older than you are, then to her you would probably be just some "young kid", so she would say "young one." Besides, it really doesn't matter, really.

Seeing as Dantooine was bombed and by the Sith, they might not be too friendly towards Sith bounty hunters. Bounty hunters would dress like normal people and not seek to draw attention to themselves.

Well, for one, Dantooine settlers hated Jedi, they didn't seem to say much about Sith, if you noticed. And Bounty Hunters in KotOR usually don't wear regular clothes- they usually let everyone know who they are- not only that, no one really cares.

I just got done playing through your mod and, wow... it is great. I have only a few suggestions.

I agree with the above dialog comments: more choices, and especially clear cut alignment chioces. While I readily acknowledge that I am not the brightest tool in the shed, I had to play the Bastila parts a few times before I understood what was going on with her. Maybe instesd of just a single phrase from the exile so she will continue her story, you could set up a list of questions to ask from, that way at least we would know the subject going in. This would also allow for those long paragraphs to be broken up (for those of us with attention spans that register in negatives!)

Another comment, and believe me, I know nothing about modding (just how to install them, sometimes) so this idea might not be possible, but datapads and/or journal entries would be cool. DAP:GOLD stuff is all in the begining of the areas, and by the time you are done with an area, some details are a little fuzzy. It's nice to be able to go back and review so you don't go to... well nevermind, where I went, Bastila could be screaming where to go right next to the nav computer and I would have gotten it wrong!!!

The last thing, if it is at all possible, is Bastila's double saber... please, please, please make it so that the color crystal can be changed. I love the hilt, I want to use the hilt all the time, but i hate yellow.

Other than that (and the everpreasent plea for MORE) it is extremely well done and I thouroughly enjoyed it.
