Jango Fett being the last of the Mandalorians explains why he agreed to be cloned, but more specifically, why he requested he have an unaltered clone, Boba, who wouldn't just be a soldier, but with Jango as a father become a Mandalorian, so he wouldn't be the last of the Mandalorians.

Wikipedia isn't canon. Again, it depends on what a "Mandalorian" is.

Maybe it means he was born on a certain planet (and that planet no longer exists).

Perhaps the term comes from "Man of the Lore." In their culture there was one man who kept all their stories ("lore") in his mind to repeat them to people for their enjoyment and to pass on the legends. Over time the term got shortened to "Mandalore." Due to the pervasive influence of modern technology the storytelling tradition began to gradually die out, until finally he was the last "Mandalore" (Mandalorian).

Who knows...

Excuse me, but don't point fingers at Wikipedia. It says nowhere in Wikipedia that Jango Fett was the last Mandalorian. According to official EU-Canon lore, Boba Fett actually led an army of Mandalorians to war against the Yuuzhan Vong. Therefore, it can be concluded that there were hell of a lotta Mandalorians in the galaxy, only they were lost, disbanded and without guidance.

If you read my post, I said it might have been wikipedia. I didn't say that it was. As for being called 'he', I definitely object to that.

I think what defines a Mandalorian is not the planet of their birth but it's kind of like they have to go through training and that kind of stuff to become a true Mandalorian. Or that's how I always thought it was, can't remember where I heard it.

The point was IF it were wikipedia, one should realize that this is a source to be taken with a grain of salt by itself (rather than if it were an official website). And no need to object, since I am male. ;)

All I wanted to know is why Jango Fett was referred to as the last of the Mandalorians. Why is it when I post a simple request for info, it ends up in a debate?

What do you expect? This is a message board, don't complain.

Maybe he was the last of the great Mandalorians, or last of the known Mandalorians.

Or last of the true mandalorians, not like the clones ever did any mandalorian rituals or training or anything. Neither did Boba for that matter, at least not that we know of.

And yet, isn't Jango supposed to have hand trained many of the Clones before his death? And he never taught his son anything?

Maybe he didn't care that he was "Last of the Mandalorians."

Btw, that sounds like the title of a parody movie. It's about noble Jangachgook and his son Bobuncas. The run around with Hawk'E'ye and have adventures.

Because nobody really knows where the source of this info comes from. If it is mentioned someplace in canon, then it's probably explained somewhat. We just don't know anything really... I think that's why. ;)

If you could track down the source of it (not just some unknown person throwing it up on a wiki site) that would help immensely.

If I told you for example that there is "only one Dark Lord of the Sith" you'd think I was nuts unless I explained that it was from Star Wars: Behind the Magic (c. 1998) and overridden by the prequels (though I think in that particular case it was written elsewhere in some guide about Star Wars before BTM).

First time an administrator or moderator got in on a debate without closing the forum. I don't think being Mandalorian had anything to do with rolling doobies or their pickup lines. Of course, I wouldn't mind hearing a pickup line from Canderous Ordo from KOTOR.
