JediRevan Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 I read somewhere online that Jango Fett was the last of the Mandalorians. If he agreed to have himself cloned then how can he be the last of the Mandalorians?
Prime Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 I guess the question is what defines a mandalorian?
JediRevan Posted November 1, 2005 Author Posted November 1, 2005 That's very true. If Jango Fett was the last of the Mandalorians, I guess that's why he agreed to be cloned. But then that would be liike you being cloned and someone saying that you were the last of your line.
MachineCult Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 Jango Fett being the last of the Mandalorians explains why he agreed to be cloned, but more specifically, why he requested he have an unaltered clone, Boba, who wouldn't just be a soldier, but with Jango as a father become a Mandalorian, so he wouldn't be the last of the Mandalorians.
JediRevan Posted November 5, 2005 Author Posted November 5, 2005 Then why is it stated on one of the Star Wars websites or it might have been wikipedia, that Jango Fett was the last of the Mandalorians????
Kurgan Posted November 5, 2005 Posted November 5, 2005 Wikipedia isn't canon. Again, it depends on what a "Mandalorian" is. Maybe it means he was born on a certain planet (and that planet no longer exists). Perhaps the term comes from "Man of the Lore." In their culture there was one man who kept all their stories ("lore") in his mind to repeat them to people for their enjoyment and to pass on the legends. Over time the term got shortened to "Mandalore." Due to the pervasive influence of modern technology the storytelling tradition began to gradually die out, until finally he was the last "Mandalore" (Mandalorian). Who knows...
Sabretooth Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 Excuse me, but don't point fingers at Wikipedia. It says nowhere in Wikipedia that Jango Fett was the last Mandalorian. According to official EU-Canon lore, Boba Fett actually led an army of Mandalorians to war against the Yuuzhan Vong. Therefore, it can be concluded that there were hell of a lotta Mandalorians in the galaxy, only they were lost, disbanded and without guidance.

Kurgan Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 Right, and the same goes for the Star Wars Wiki (at Wikicities), of which there may be some confusion here (between it and Wikipedia proper).

If you read my post, I said it might have been wikipedia. I didn't say that it was. As for being called 'he', I definitely object to that.
Jeff Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 I think what defines a Mandalorian is not the planet of their birth but it's kind of like they have to go through training and that kind of stuff to become a true Mandalorian. Or that's how I always thought it was, can't remember where I heard it.

The point was IF it were wikipedia, one should realize that this is a source to be taken with a grain of salt by itself (rather than if it were an official website). And no need to object, since I am male.
JediRevan Posted November 10, 2005 Author Posted November 10, 2005 All I wanted to know is why Jango Fett was referred to as the last of the Mandalorians. Why is it when I post a simple request for info, it ends up in a debate?

Maybe he was the last of the great Mandalorians, or last of the known Mandalorians.
El Sitherino Posted November 10, 2005 Posted November 10, 2005 Or last of the true mandalorians, not like the clones ever did any mandalorian rituals or training or anything. Neither did Boba for that matter, at least not that we know of.
MachineCult Posted November 10, 2005 Posted November 10, 2005 Theres a Mando embelem on Boba Fetts shoulder or something, I assume Jango probably taught him the Mandalorian ways or whatever, especially if he was the last one.

Maybe he didn't care that he was "Last of the Mandalorians." Btw, that sounds like the title of a parody movie. It's about noble Jangachgook and his son Bobuncas. The run around with Hawk'E'ye and have adventures.

If it is mentioned someplace in canon, then it's probably explained somewhat. We just don't know anything really... I think that's why. If you could track down the source of it (not just some unknown person throwing it up on a wiki site) that would help immensely. If I told you for example that there is "only one Dark Lord of the Sith" you'd think I was nuts unless I explained that it was from Star Wars: Behind the Magic (c. 1998) and overridden by the prequels (though I think in that particular case it was written elsewhere in some guide about Star Wars before BTM).
JediRevan Posted November 12, 2005 Author Posted November 12, 2005 Actually I wasn't complaining, I kind of get a kick out starting a debate with a simple quest for information. The same thing happened when I went on a quest for info on Canderous Ordo's tattoo.
JediRevan Posted November 12, 2005 Author Posted November 12, 2005 Starting a debate with a simple quest for information seems to liven the message boards up. It's neat as long as no one says anything about my age. Do you know of any other boards that need to be livened up a bit?

Kurgan Posted November 13, 2005 Posted November 13, 2005 Yeah, what are these "Mandalorian things"? Maybe he taught them the Mandalorian way to roll a doobie, or Mandalorian pickup lines.
JediRevan Posted November 13, 2005 Author Posted November 13, 2005 First time an administrator or moderator got in on a debate without closing the forum. I don't think being Mandalorian had anything to do with rolling doobies or their pickup lines. Of course, I wouldn't mind hearing a pickup line from Canderous Ordo from KOTOR.
