Short answer, yes. There are many books that do not take place in the time of the films.

There are no novels, but the games use a lot story and setting information from the old Tales of the Jedi comic series. For starters...

There are no Novels about this time period, but like prime said the force.net can give you every book published... Prime's link was to the comics. this link takes you to the novels, and the have a cronological order to help you out.

Really, to be quite honest, I was unsure if there were any KoTOR period novels. So, I worded my response carefully. Perhaps not carefully enough.
