Katarn07
I'd get T2T if they trashed the nudity. Yeah, what is the deal with that? Why the shift from a kid friendly story to a mature one filled with pointless sex? Yes, yes. Sex sells, but I don't get off on pixelated ladies clad in nearly nothing and see through clothes. Wasn't the blood and gore (which I did like) enough for it to earn its more easily marketable M rating?
Kain
Yes, they drop the sex in T2T. What is everyone's gruff with WW? All I keep hearing is how 'no Farah bad, combat bad, puzzles good, music bad, new voice bad'. Yea, loosing Farah was bad...in the sense that not being shot in the back with arrows is bad. The combat is bad...sure, if you completly suck at it. Puzzles good, sure enough. The music is better than SoT. As for the new voice - at least he doesn't sound like an uptight little prick in WW. Katarn07
Yes, they drop the sex in T2T. Then why is rated M for nudity (among blood/ gore and intense violence)? What is everyone's gruff with WW? Because SoT had charm and was innovative. WW took the franchise and forced a darkness on it that wasn't necessarily needed. It had a terrible opening sequence that managed to turn both me and toms away from it. Yea, loosing Farah was bad...in the sense that not being shot in the back with arrows is bad. She never once hit me in the back with arrows. I just remember liking the bickering between the Prince and her. Kaileena barely has a presence in the game from what I've played. The combat is bad...sure, if you completly suck at it. I believe repetative was the word I saw someone say. And I thought it felt clunky at first without the dagger to do the finishing moves on downed enemies. I started to enjoy it once I got inside the palace. Although, as toms mentioned, the off hand weapon is virtually pointless. I just chuck it at those birdmen as finishing moves once in a while. Puzzles good, sure enough. We're in agreement. The training ones weren't as good as the ones in SoT though and could have turned off fans of the first. The music is better than SoT. Are you serious? Rock guitar has no place in the game and ruins the whole atmosphere SoT's made. I pray to God that T2T has better music. As for the new voice - at least he doesn't sound like an uptight little prick in WW. I liked that uptight little prick from SoT because he had character and emotion. Him narrating the tale made the story all the better. I bet WW, with some sort of narration, would have me more eager to complete it than the voiceless combat. With all these comments, I still really really like WW. And BoPoP made the transformation of that uptight little prick to the dark brooding prick all the more easier to deal with. So go get yourself a DS if you don't have one and try it out
Kain
Then why is rated M for nudity (among blood/ gore and intense violence)? Probably the belly dancing enemies. And Kaileena's outfit still leaves little to the imagination...for the whole of 5 minutes. Because SoT had charm and was innovative. WW took the franchise and forced a darkness on it that wasn't necessarily needed. It had a terrible opening sequence that managed to turn both me and toms away from it. They had to continue the franchise somehow. And the opening sequence may have been drawn out, but it helped set the theme for the rest of the game - the desperate last ditch effort of a dead man walking. She never once hit me in the back with arrows. I just remember liking the bickering between the Prince and her. Kaileena barely has a presence in the game from what I've played. Go into 1st person mode and stare at her for even more bickering fun. And while the bickering was amusing, the constantly having to save her got really aggravating, especially on the elevator. The only way the fighting system is repetative is if you don't use a secondary weapon. And for example I present Are you serious? Rock guitar has no place in the game and ruins the whole atmosphere SoT's made. I pray to God that T2T has better music. Yea I'm serious. It sets the mode for the fast paced combat that consumes most of the game. And you keep comparing the atmosphere of WW to SoT. They're completly different - that was the whole intention of the two games. I liked that uptight little prick from SoT because he had character and emotion. Him narrating the tale made the story all the better. I bet WW, with some sort of narration, would have me more eager to complete it than the voiceless combat. Personally, I like the lack of an omnipotent being telling the story. The Prince is off fighting for his life - who could he possibly be talking to? Besides, the story telling comes full circle in T2T. With all these comments, I still really really like WW. And BoPoP made the transformation of that uptight little prick to the dark brooding prick all the more easier to deal with. So go get yourself a DS if you don't have one and try it out Yea, as for picking up a DS, I'll pass. At most I'll borrow my friends and rent the game. toms
I'm in the water tower now. I'm enjoying it a lot more now i'm into the game proper and past that dire opening level. The platforming is still just as good as it was in SoT, and even though the game has lost a lot of it's charm the underlying gameplay still shines through. The rock music isn't too bad, as long as you don't end up replaying a section too much, then it just feels like rubbing salt in the wounds and ups the annoyance factor. I've got a bit better at the combat, but I still just use the same 4 or 5 moves most of the time, and a lot of the others are simply cosmetic in effect. On the whole i'm just running past most of the combat now as it just slows things down, interrupts the flow and gets in the way. Occasionally i'll stop and beat the heck out of a few people for a while though. Well spotted on the medalion and the HUD, i missed that completely. They didn't exactly make it clear... it wasn't until i got a life upgrade i even noticed the medallion, and i can't remember the details from SoT. At least it makes a bit more sense now. After having a lot of trouble with the bimbo in the thong in the training level (making a hard boss in a training level before you learn combat and before you get rewind was a daft idea), I had no trouble at all with her the 2nd time. Satisfying! The main thing that is annoying is that they have integrated the combat and the platforming, in some places it works, but in others it means you sometimes do a really cool run through loads of platforming and traps with low health and then get cheap shotted in the combat (usually by a ninja girl jumping on your back) and die. Then have to do the whole run again. It definately ups the frustration level. The sand powers and Dahaka are both ok additions, but neither is particularly mind-blowing. I do miss the narration effect, and the overall unique feel and sense of wonder that SoT had. Its all much more generic in WW. I guess it might not have made sense to have the new prince narrate it this time, but they could maybe have had someone else do it? Not having finished the story i don't know how well it would fit the ending. I wish the prince would stop shouting ARGH!! so much when you swing swords or do anything. He sounds like an idiot. The uptight, arrogant prince was cool. At least he was unique and gave you someone to care about (eventually). Replacing him with a generic brooding guy doesn't make him more appealing. I miss farrah
Katarn07
I'm not much further than you, toms. I managed to start my ascent up the second tower. I haven't touched it in a few weeks since I started BoPoP but probably will start again sometime this week. Yeah, all the one liners during combat from all combatants are annoying. And the only platforming/ fighting bit I really had trouble with was the first appearance of the birdman outside of the palace. I'd always flip over him and off a cliff.... with no rewind. Kain
Don't feel bad Bongo. I beat the T2T in 10 hours on the first day I got it. I took the day off of work just to do it Good thing that even when I beat a game it doesn't bore me eh?
BongoBob
Lol, is it a fitting ending to the trilogy?
Kain
Its rather amusing actually but yes it is an awesome ending.
BongoBob
That's all I need to hear, the ending of WW really blew my mind, I'm hoping that T2T is just as much fun. And do you know if there's once again 2 endings?
Black Knight of Keno
Jesus... What happened to the great PoP-attitude they used to have when playing the classic 2D PoPs. Prince that, voice that, combat that. I myself was excited to try out the SoT at my brother's(Which ended in a matter of minutes and I switched to play Vice City) but the excitement died quickly. You people talk like this new, trendy and hip game-series would be a completely new thing. Sure it's new in the idea that it's 3D and has an another idea than escaping from a dungeon with only a sword that you found eventually(If I remember correctly), but it seems that people have forgotten that there were Prince of Persia games before these. Where is that part of you that enjoyed games like PoP in their teen years in late 80's and early 90's when games were still good and replayable over and over again Am I the only one rooting for the classics? toms
I'm at the top of the 2nd tower now. Working through the mechanical tower was great fun. In a bored moment I actually decided to look through the unlocked extras, and the very last video is quite cool as it shows all the combat moves. This actually inspired me to try a bit more variation in my combat. I can see what they were trying to do, and certain elements are quite cool, but they certainly made it hard to dig into. I think my main problem with the combat is that it just takes too darn long... hopefully the stealth kills in T2T will speed things up and improve the flow. Fighting the iron giants is quite good fun. @Darth Tepe: What attitude? SoT almost perfectly captures the feel of the old PoP game, while simultaneously shifting it into the 3rd dimenson and updating it to modern gameplay. It rocks. You can tell that they had the original PoP guy on board for SoT as it has a very similar feel to it.
toms
Finished it BTW! Been of work with a cold for the last two days so i blitzed it. Finished with both edings too. It got better as it went on.. though i was forced to turn off the music, did think it lacked a lot of the charm of SoT and wasn't entirely sure the story actually made sense. I like (and was surprised by) the fact that the endings lead straight into the start of ttT. By the end i ran past most of the combat.. except with giants, which was fun.. and actually really appreciated becoming the sand wraith as it meant i could just blast past the combat in slow time. Once you uncovered it's secrets the combat engine wasn't bad... but the way it was used was terrible. Far too many enemies in places, enemies that were vunerable to only specific attacks, too much frustration. There is no way i would have managed to get all the life upgrades without using a walkthrough.. and i hate to think how hard the combat (and end bosses) would have been without all that extra health. Odd, cos i dont remember having any trouble getting life upgrades in SoT. I enjoyed it, but i think i'll wait a while before i move on to ttT. Katarn07
Heh, still somewhere in the second tower having beaten two of those giants. Haven't touched it in weeks. I got caught up in Mario Kart DS and have been rewatching BSG for the new episodes to begin (which by the way was an awesome start). Gonna start to finish WW and then SoT. toms
Heh, now i've finished it I've just started to catch up on BSG as well, I only got about half way through season 2 before I got distracted by xmas. I've gone back to Far Cry now as well, since i got fed up with it a while back when i got stuck on an insanely difficult stretch. I'm past that now so its all fun. I think i'll give ttT time to drop in price, and myself a rest, and then pick that up.
