Cmdr. Cracken
Thumbs up. HISTORICAL ACCURACY: The Battle of Stalingrad. perhaps the turning point of the war. boy, was that city f***ed up.i've seen pictures of Stalingrad post Nazi occupation--> Soviet liberation, and it's accurate. Guns, tanks, even the "invasion" of the cty at the begining look pretty durn real. dunno if stoviet officers shoot the cowards, but it was good. another thing that bugged me was women in the Soviet Army. can anyone confirm this? And yes, the guns, the dying, all "Saving Private Ryan" like. like in R/L , it's a slaughter of Russian and Germans alike, but more russian, since it's the begining of a long battle..... PLOT: Pretty bang on stuff. It starts out with this young lad w/ his "father", and thier hunting. sniping. what? a wolf. bang. now, fast forward, september, 1942, the Battle of Stalingrad. this young lad, now grown up, and a soldier in the Soviet Army, is being forced into the city. as general chaos enuses, he manages to survive, and get behind the line, and snipes a high rank Nazi. from theer, his fame grows, and draws the attention of a decorated, and high ranking german sniper. so, what does this all bog down to? Sniper war. know it, live it, loved it. add in intrigueing sub-plots and a few twists that I and you don't expect, it's great fun. SMALL THINGS...: The accents were HORRIBLE! ENGLISH, yes, ENGLISH accents were used! yes, i can see you know knowing them, but they could have at least made an attempt! I'll give that young dude who portrays that lead a break, but Ed Harris, a veteran actor has no excuse for not attempting a decent German. overall, a 9 outta 10. excellent movie, and historicaly accurate, but a few things are keeping it from getting a 10. like Saving Private Ryan did.... god that was good. ------------------ Don't knock on Death's door. Cmdr. Cracken
but britian was in the War. and technically, from my P.O.V, if the Soviets haden't made that upset at stalingrad, the Germans woulda mowed right throught the morale-less Soviet army, and taken Russia, and won Europe after.
